Sad day!

Sorry havn't posted in some time. Our town lost power a few days ago and my daughter called me balling her eyes out. Her preciouus Jackson cham was at the bottom of his cage leaning to the side so I told her to try and pick him up but he had passed. Just wondering if the loss of power overnite and into the next day could of been the cause of this. He was such an overly friendly, sweetest could be cham. I also lost power too but all of my chams seem to be just fine. She took very good care of him. All his lights were perfect and he was a great eater too. Just so strange for him to just suddenly fallen ill and die within a matter of days.
I just don't understand it! Thanks for listening!

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of the Jackson's; glad the rest of your chams made it. Jackson's are more temperature-sensitive than many - that could have contributed - but at first glance I would assume a power loss in New Hampshire at this time of year would lead to loss of heat, and Jackson's would be better able to handle that than a warmer species such as a veiled or panther... at any rate, condolences.

I'm sooo sorry to hear that. Yes in NH thousands of people lost power for days. We were one of the lucky ones. If it ever happens again, give me a jingle maybe we can help....

Sorry for your daughter's loss.

The power outage would only have been a problem if the temperatures in the house were too low. It wouldn't hurt for the lights to be out for a couple of days. Might I recommend keeping some heat packs around so if it happens again the chameleon can be kept warm.

Thank you Cham lover, I may take you up on that someday...Hope it doesn't happen again though. i also have 2 jacksons and 2 veils and 1 pigmy and they all survived just fine. Thankfully! My daughter is so devestated and blames herself therefor she now doesn't dare have another cham. I reassured her that it was not her fault and that her house just got too cold for him. How would heat packs work with screened cages? Maybe if you had a bunch of them they would.
Thanks everyone for your kind words, i will for sure pass them on to my daughter who has such a broken heart over this...

I'm so sorry!

It may not help much, but I would wonder if your daughter's house temps were much different than yours? Just how cold did it get indoors? I agree...a jax is more likely to handle a cold period better than some other species. I'm sure you know how talented chams are at hiding health problems. Something may have been going on with her cham that no one could detect. There may have been nothing to notice until the chill put some extra stress on top of it. Unfortunately it happens.

I'm sure this was a cared for cham who had a great life with your daughter.

I have all my Jacksons in my bedroom and I run a space heater on occasion just to keep the temps right and so when I lost power, my room seemed to retain the heat fairly well so I beleive thats why mine survived. My daughter had hers in a large area so I am sure that her house got much colder than mine. you may be right in that the cold could of just put stress on her little guy and that did him in. He may of also been an older cham so not sure if his age had something to do with it too. I hope she doesn't give up on them because she realy did take good care of him and did all she could to make sure he was a happy little guy. Don't think we will ever realy know why.
