?s for Uromastyx owners

Uromastyx are great, I used to keep Malis, they are very easy to keep and they get some beautiful coloring and patterning. I kept mine in pretty much the same setup you would a Bearded Dragon. Feeding mainly veggies (like everyone else ) make sure the veggies have a high water content. I would throw like a dozen crickets in every other week with calcium, D3 and vitamins. I would also soak them every other week in warm water.

Humidity isn't wasn't that huge an issue for me, the humidity in our house was usually like 45-50% in the winter and 55-60% during the summer. I used sand as the substrate and didn't provide a water bowl (they get the water they need from the food).

Couple of nice video links.

These were done by Timo Langerwerf before they sold agama international after Bert died.

They show the outdoor uromastyx setups in alabama- a state about as humid and rainy as any southern state. The uros were kept outdoors year round and thrived and bred annually. Note the glass keeps some parts of the cage always dry even in the rain. The stuff about humidity being a big problem just isn't true...
