Rudis Chameleon Care and Stuff

Maybe I misunderstand your plans, but I wouldn't keep a pair of rudis chameleons in a cage that small. Consider one animal for now and when you have that one figured out, then get another cage and the opposite sex.

Check the Resources tab at the top of any page and there's a good non-toxic plant list there.

Your temperatures and humidity are good. I'd offer a small basking spot on the cage. Room temperature throughout the cage does not offer any kind of choice for your animal. It can't escape the heat if it wants, nor can it warm up if your room is too cold.

I can't answer the supplements question as I don't use the same thing(s) as everyone else. Other people will offer advice on this, but yes, calcium and vitamins need to be given to rudis chameleons.

Like what type of bulb should I use for basking? A low wattage house buld? I read that one person kept 2 in a 18x18x36. Will this be to big for a 2 month old Rudis?

you could use a house bulb, 75w, that will offer a range of temps if your ambient temps are already pretty close, but dont forget that winter months the temps all go down, so keep that in mind.

If you were to have 2 small chams,rudis, in a cage you will need a pretty good size cage, that way they can have their space and establish their own territory. But the general rule of thumb is one cham to one cage.

I think Rudis are probably the perfect cham IMHO.

They're relatively social (I like to see cham interacting with each other), have great colours, are small enough to not be difficult to house but big enough to interact if problems arise (meaning, it's almost impossible to put a pygmy through surgery due to their size, for example).

Too bad I live in a warm climate and they need cooler temperatures... the day I can afford an AC, I'll bet on one of those.

75 watt is too hot imo. The temps on a 75 watt wil go far above 80 degrees. I have a 25 watt on mine and babies and they do very well.

oops i forgot that we were talking about rudis, i have veileds on the mind.
remember though that house bulbs dont put off as much as basking bulbs, i use 75 watt house bulbs in my cages and they never reach higher than 84.

Just because other people are doing things does not make it the right thing. One of the hardest things in chameleon keeping is being able to spot problems since chameleons, like birds, will act normal until the bitter end as a survival instinct. Once you realize something is wrong, it is usually too late. Stress is a big factor in these animals and putting them together in a small enironment (and that could mean 2 in even a 24X24X48 cage) can cause one or both to go downhill fast.
Not to burst anyones bubble, have you talked to your parents about exotic Vet bills? It makes me sad to think people will go the "cheaper" way only to think that they are not going to take the cham to the Vet because "it wasn't worth that much." You are getting into an animal that can commonly have eye issues, mouth issues, etc....and these things are almost a given without absolutley proper care on many levels. All that being said, I don't think a Rudis cham is a great starter cham.

Rudis breeding

MY house stays around 75-77 all the time. How hard are they to breed? I would like to get a cage that holds 2. Maby could yuou guys make up a Check List?

Not that hard. To induce them breeding I would take the male and put him by the females cage and let him see fer and let him crawl on the outside making him eager for about 5-10 minutes. if she is being receptice(with her colors etc.)
, i place him in their they bred about 5-7 times before she started rejecting him and became gravid. good luck!
