Romeo's mouth

Chameleon Enthusiast
Hi All: Was wondering if you guys could take a look at the left side of Romeo's mouth on the bottom part of his lip. You will notice inthe pic there is that small area that sticks out. It is appears to be like a piece of skin. It has been there for awhile now but I on Friday I decided to take him to the vet. My vet(who I feel is knowledgeable about chameleons) did not think much of it and checked the inside of his mouth thoroughly to make sure there were no issues going on inside. He said everything looked perfect in that regard. It is not an infection or mouth rot. He told me I could put a topical med on it that he gave me for his foot when he had a sore and see if it maybe would improve. I was just wondering what you all thought and if any of you have ever experienced anything similar with your chameleons. Not sure what caused it. It kinda came or of nowhere, and at first I thought it was a piece of thick shed on his mouth. When I tried to rub it off it just stayed there!! The pic is not the best but I think gives you good idea what I am talking about. thank you for your input!!!

Yeah Carol my mitsio male has a similar "spot" on his lip also. I used polysporin when I first noticed it. Thinking it was a bite from a feeder. Now it looks like hes just missing a cpl of scales on his lip. I asked my vet also without bringing him in. He said if it wasnt infected then he should be fine. I watched him for a cpl of months and it hasnt changed or affected him at all. I kinda figured it was a feeder bite or its just because hes getting old. Glad you posted that though. It makes me feel better knowing hes not the only pardalis with that same issue.

A lot have this. Myth is mouth rot is like this. But mouthrot starts as a swelling below the lip. From my experience this is a deformation, which can be caused by feeders and the injuries they might inflict or by genes (is he cb?). Put it like this: your Cham is amazing.

well that makes me feel better also! That is why I posted. I was hoping someone else out there had the same issue. Misery loves company right? just kidding! But yes the scales are gone and I don't think they are coming back. I was just concerned there might be something going on inside the mouth and I am sure glad there wasn't!! I will just keep an eye out and make sure it does not grow bigger. Thanks a bunch!!

Yeah, I was worried at first also. I was hoping the scales would return after I treated it. Its been almost a yr since I noticed it and the scales never did regrow. Romeo is still a stud a few scales wont hurt his appearance. :D

lol It is just the pic. I had him weighed at the vet and he was 240 grams, which is large but not 5 lbs!!!:p

yeah he is CB. I don't mind it being there, I just wanted to make sure it was not going to harm him in anyway! and Thank you for the compliment!

one of my females gets something like that. it looks like a small peice of dried skin. Its actually just left over from food. i use a pair of tweezers and take it off.

ALmost looks like something on the inside is pushing out on the lip. Doesnt look like missing scales. If you follow the lip line it is all there but it looks to be pushing it out. It also doesnt look like anything you can pull off.

Maybe he has something between his teeth and lip. There is no signs of inflammation or wounds. I would personally open the mouth to have a check :)

Me too

My female veiled had one I think a meal worm bit her on the lip when I wasn't looking that's why you take the meal worms(super worms) head off.
