resting colors

would anyone be willing to post pictures of their veiled's resting colors? Not sleeping. Not fired up. Just chilling out in the cage.

Mine seems to be very dark most of the time. My husbandry has been reviewed countless times by people here as well as a great vet very recently.

He's always pretty dark most of the time, when I take him out of his cage (a stress for him) he goes nearly black, and then suddenly turns bright green. He did this in the vets office under flourecent light, being man handled by the doctor. Seems very unattached to mood.

Just wanted to see if my colors were normal.

Hi Royden,

Here's some pics from my female. I hope this will help a little. Please note that every chammy has different characteristics.

Relaxed (not basking, receptive):

Defensive (notice the polka dots appearing):

Nice Pictures........

Fabulous Veiled pictures VerteX....very clear and you really captured her different moods and changes. Royden, it sounds like you have a male that is high strung. He may just have a disposition that is prone to being stressed a lot. You may be doing everything right but have ended up with a cham who is naturally this way. He may never change. He might be the type that just needs to be left alone other than cleaning and feeding.

I have a wild caught male and female that are scared to death of me. I walk into the room they are in and I can see them basking out in the open and looking fine. They see me enter the room and they hide as fast as they can. They are stressed the whole time I am cleaning the cage. They change color. I've had them for over six months and they still have not figured out that I never harm them and am the one putting the juicy silkworms in their cage. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. This is just the way they are. As long has your guy looks otherwise healthy (weight, eyes, casque, poops, eating, etc.) you might consider that this is his nature.

thanks for the gorgeous photos!

and thanks for the advice!

You're probably right, that description goes along with the kind of 'personality' he exhibits most of the time. I just don't understand why he turns brighter colors when he's out of his cage and in some unatural setting like a vets office. Makes no sense.

I was setting up drainage the other day so I moved his cage onto the office desk while he was still in it, he brightened up even though my office is way darker and drab then his 'chameleon corner' in the closet that is brilliantly lit up and warmer than the office desk. Strange little lizard. Oh well, seems to be healthy in every other way.

thanks guys!

Phew! This is an old thread!

His colors have changed at different parts of his development. He's definetely a mean veiled and often angry, but his color has improved since this post.

No glass. But thanks for the response mary.

my chams resting colors are brownish / dark green too.
ill get an old picture up.

(this was back when he had mouth rot, and i was treating it so he kept
his mouth open a lot. his colors havent changed much)

when he is outside he is super awesome colors.
he likes to climb out of his cage (when i mist mostly) and he stays the same
when he comes out, but if i have him wandering around my room he
brightens up a little bit. i dont think mine is mean or anything i just
think that thos are his resting colors.

Those are fantastic photos....I have never seen a cham pissed and sleeping at the same time tho' LOL!!!!! I didn't know that was possible!
