My 2 month old veiled is as healthy as can be. But I would like to know if misting him often can cause respitory infection. or what is the cause please help so I can stay alert. Thanks.
I don't think the misting itself will cause an RI. It is more the environment being damp, and wet at all times and never drying out. We have these animals confined to small areas and even though they are ventilated, there are still mold and bacteria that can be produced if given the right elements. How often and how long are you misting? Is your chameleon is screen or glass? Does you cage have a chance to dry out, especially at night?
I have a glass aquarium setup well ventilated mesh screen. Heat basking bulb is a 75w and I have a exo terra glow 5.0 UVB/ UVA 18" light. I have soil for the floor in the aquarium. This soil is organic and contains no pesticides. I also have a tree for him to climb. I mist him everytime I see the enclosure dry.
you mean an aquarium as in fish tank or a terrarium?. If you mean fish tank, you need to get your chameleon either a screen enclosure (preferred) or terrarium. Living in Florida, I would be getting him into screen. You are asking for trouble having him in that tank. Those are the worst for air circulation and are not meant for chameleons. The soil is also not recommended as they can injest it and become ill. you are going to need to make some changes in order to provide a healthy environment for your chameleon.
