Respiratory Infection

  1. Chameleon Info:
    • Your Chameleon - Veiled Chameleon. I have had him for about 2.5 years .
    • Handling - Almost everyday , let him free range .
    • Feeding - I feed him about 10-16 crickets everyday , I know after the year mark you're supposed to feed a veiled every other day but he's hungry everyday. I also feed him once in awhile meal worms. I want to introduce to silk worms , but everyone who sells them are sold out at the moment.
    • Supplements - I dust the crickets everyday with calcium without D3 everyday. Flukers calcium with D3 and herpervite with beta carotene once a month every two weeks (not both at once , separate).
    • Watering - I spray his cage with a spray bottle , for 3 minutes twice a day .
    • Fecal Description - normal color solid . urates are white but with a little yellow .not tested for parasites

    Cage Info:
    • Cage Type - all screen cage, 22x48.
    • Lighting - I use repti sun 10.0 uvb and basking light I believe it's 75 watts .
    • Temperature - at the moment I am trying to find something else to detect temeperature. It is usually around 80
    • Humidity - 65%
    • Plants - I have a lot of fake plants and I have a live ficus .
    • Placement - he is near a window to get natural sunlight . since his cage is made out of the screen material it is pretty ventilated .
    • Location - California

Current Problem - I think he has a respiratory infection , every time I feed him his mouth on the side makes a popping noise and sometimes I noticed he has bubbles on the tip of his tongue . I have not seen him gape at all . also I will insert a photo where I think the side of his cheek looks swollen . I read that one cause of respiratory infection is the cause of leaving feces or urates in the case for to long , so I been doing my best to clean them as soon as I see them . but other than. That I am not sure what to do . I plan to take him the the vet soon . I am just saving money since I had to make other expenses these past few weeks . I need help if there is anything else I can do for him in the mean time . I will appreciate it . photos inserted below .

If he has a RI he will need an antibiotic. So, if that is the case, I would not wait too long. See if someone can borrow you the money.

You can always ask to see if you vet can do some sort of payment plan.

I will call the place near me tommorow , I friends with them so hopefully we can work something out .
But is there anything you can recommend to stop this from happening again?

I'm just giving a wild guess but of having him near to a window may expose him to draft at times (if that window is opened)...

The glass from the window is going to filter out any UVB rays from the sun that are coming through the window, so giving the chameleon "natural sunlight" through a window isn't going to work. He literally benefits nothing from it except for maybe the bit of added brightness.

Totally agreed.

Hi there my baby girls name is Francis as well . She had the start of an RI . If you're baby has one you want to catch it early . My Francis's was put on Enoloxacin . Her lungs sounded pretty good but did have the popping and sounded like she was coughing , she recovered fast . It was not expensive 32 with appointment .
