Rescued a veiled. How bad is he?

So I went and picked up a veiled from an older lady yesterday. She said her sons friend didnt want it so he gave it to her. She did have the right lights for him and a few supplements. She only had him for a month so I really dont know what his schedule was but I know she and he only had calcium with d3 and reptivite. When I went up to her loft to get him he was surrounded by birds in cages. Also his basking light wasnt on and it was pretty chilli up there. I know he has been tormented with fear for the month that she had him. She wondered why he was paper thin. Im sure this had something to do with but even now he is pretty thin. Also has MBD. I dont know how bad off he is but he eats like a pig, walks normal, is pissy as hell, and has a hell of a grip. His tail seems a little kinky, he has an underbite and his casque is deformed, but his limbs dont seem to be bowed that I can tell. He really is hard to get a good look at. Im thinking that his UVB light was never changed and not the right basking temps since he is so skinny. His urates were mostly white but you could see undigested crickets in his poop. Again probably from wrong basking temps and the fact that she would just throw in 24 crickets here and there for him to eat. I have no background on him what so ever. I am hoping that he isnt to far down hill. I am going to get him settled in and see how things go for the next week or so. I will be getting a fecal done here soon also.

Please let me know your opinions on this guy.

I give him a 9 out of 10.
The only problems I see is he casque and possible being a bit underweight.
Strong grip, good color, mean, all good characteristics of healthy veiled.

Well in my opinion he looks a tad underweight, he looks as though he is hydrated but for certainty keep the misting and watering up..I dont see any signs of MBD maybe recovering but his limbs look fairly straight.. Maybe a trip to the vet is in the books just for safety

Keep the temps right, hydration, food, and supplements and you should have a healthy cham!

He looks pretty good. The casque is a little bit unusual...but I don't think it matters. The only other thing I can see that I would keep an eye on is the little mark on his lower (right side) lip....it could be the beginning of mouth rot.

pump his weight up with super worms and keep him well hydrated and you should have a perfect cham !

Awesome! That is great news. I thought he might have recovered from MBD because of the casque and tail being wierd but still having appetite and good motor skills. I wanted to make sure though. Do they always have that underbite?

I did notice his mouth in the pics. He is really hard to get a good look at besides pointing the camera somewhere in his direction and snapping. Ill definatly be keeping an eye out.

I didnt build the cage It was made by the first owner. I am going to redo the frame with pvc mesh insead of metal. After I go get some more wood I will be building him a nice cage. Ive been wanting a veiled for a while but have been busy with the panthers. Im glad I could get a pretty one and give one a good home at the same time. Hopefully this guy willdo well. Ill keep everyone updated of course

For all that he's been through, he looks great! No doubt due to your intervention. Poor little guy, why do people do this? It just boggles my mind how little regard some folks have for these precious little creatures.

One thing that I have learned over the years is that if I meet someone new and they say they don't like animals or they think of their animals as possesions and not living, breathing, feeling souls... Then they probably don't have too high of a regard for humans souls either. That's when the conversation ends for me and I run as fast as I can - in the opposite direction.

These creatures are so fascinating to have someone just toss them out like garbage burns my soul.

Especially dumping one on a poor old lady who loves animals. Luckily I was getting crix at the pet store because I ran out before my shippment came in. She asked what I was feeding and I said an army of chams. She then told me about hers. She said I dont know anything about him and he is very very hissy. I laughed. The pet store didnt like it much that she was giving it to me instead of giving it to them to sell to me hahahah.

Totally agree - people who treat non-human animals as disposable dont usually have a good rep with the human-type animals either IMHO
