I got this male panther as a rescue. Someone abandoned it outside of a local reptile store with a note saying he had been in a fight with another male and his tale suffered some damage. has anyone seen anything like this before?

Absolutely go to the vet. Panther chameleons are quite resilent and have seen a Panther that recovered from an injury worse than the one you have shown. Good luck.

Poor guy! He looks okay other than the tail. Take him to the vet, they will probably take the end off and give antibiotics so it doesn't get infected.

I know it's hard looking at things like that, but he can do fine with a partially amputated tail.

yes he is going to the vet this week. Unfortunatly i had to go out of town over the weekend and couldnt take him but i have been putting a product called vetericyn. I work in a feed store and its a new product to us and was vet only for years and is now available to the public and its cleared for reptiles as well as many other animals. It is a wound treatment spray and it has already made noticeable improvements on the tailand i would highly recomend this product. We will be going to the vet hopefuly tommorow, thank you to all of you who took the time to respond

Let us know how the vet trip goes. That's great that you are applying ointment, that will hopefully prevent soft tissue infections, but that won't do anything for osteomyelitis (bone infection) which can lead to septicemia, and the bone looks exposed so that needs to be amputated and systemic antibiotics need to be given very soon. Not trying to scare you, just making sure you definitely keep that vet appointment

I agree with the vets visit. There's a good chance that tail could be infected.

What a heartbreak, but a good candidate for a success. The tissue does look necrotic, get him in ASAP.

Well went to the vet this morning, Pauley spent a very expensive day with them and here are the results

He is also being treated for what the vet called a minor eye infection but he is otherwise in great health. Thank you every for your input

yes those are pretty clear pictures. I took them with my black berry lol. I guess there is stictches under the wrap andd it comes off on saturday so i will try to post some pics

yea its worth the money. i woulda felt terrible leaving him at the pet store because unfortunatly they lie to make a buck ( they told me it would fall off and be okay......yea iam not stupid) and he would have ended up dead so iam very happy.Hes a nice additionto the vieled who was egg bound and had surgery to remove them. I think iam gonna start calling them my special needs chams

Iam having trouble administering his oral meds. I never had this problem with my vieled because she has a bad attitude and hisses and gapes when you get anywhere near her. any suggestions?
