Does the reptisun 5.0 light give out heat? Or would i need to get a heat bulb as well?

Probably not enough heat for basking unless the room is VERY warm. What are the general room temps? Any regular house light bulb can work as a basking bulb.

You need a heat bulb as well as the uvb bulb. The heat bulb should be 60 watts or lower.

I would suggest not using that bulb they have been know to cause blindness. Just a linear reptisun uvb 5.0 and correct wattage house bulb for basking.

Those don't cause blindness, it's the cork screw looking ones and I found out the newer style cork screw type don't now ether.

The most often recommended UVB light is the repti-sun 5.0 long linear fluorescent tube. It doesn't give off much heat though...so if your cage still needs more all you need to do is add a regular incandescent household bulb of a wattage that provides the temperature you need. The bulb should be housed in a hood IMHO.

Maybe something has been changed. However, I wouldn't take the risk and would only recommend the reptisun uvb 5.0 linear tubes, some people use 10.0 also. The tubes are in the link I posted earlier. The ones in question I do not trust. I would hate to cause and cham. to go blind from a mistake like that.

dont skimp out on lights, everyone here will tell you your lights are probably one of the most important if not THE most important part of a setup for a healthy cham life.

a ceramic or plastic clip dome light can be found many places for less and $10, and a 40 watt house bulb is what, $1.50 for a 3 pack? which give you a grand total of ~$12 for a proper worry free basking light


youll hear this many times around here, WHen you got into the hobby of keeping chameleons you knew it wasnt a cheap hobby, skimping out on a basking light is like buying a Ferrari with no motor, uterly pointless
