Reptile pound in big troubles

Hi everyone,
and Hi Chris, I hope I may "abuse" this forum for this :

I am writing because an important institution here in Munich, Germany is in big troubles. It is the only Reptile-station in Southern Germany and needs to close in the end of October because of financial problems.
This institution houses 900 Reptiles and Amphibians that has been found, handed over or confiscated because of bad husbandry. This also the first station when reptiles or amphibians arrive illegally in Germany. Those animals are often in a bad shape and its expensive to nurse them back to health. Not all of them can leave this institution for a new home.

Most of the funding are donations, but they dont have enough to keep the station running. Currently they lack 50000€.
I know Germany is far from the US, but there are many European Users here, and maybe we can find sponsors or some smaller donations from you.
This station is not only a home for homeless reptiles, but also a institution for training policemen, soldiers and reptiletraders in handling with dangerous animals, for veterinary students and others.

Here is a movie (sorry its in German)

And this is the homepage
They accept donations via paypal ;) Guess this is easy enough for everyone.

This is a few Kilometers from my home. I have been there a few times and its really a good place to leave your money :)
Maybe I can get pictures to post here.

I really want to encourage people to help this animal shelter. It's the only one in Germany with such a lot of vets specialized in reptiles. The leading vet is one of only two vets in whole Germany allowed to test and certify vets for a specialisation title in reptiles. They educate about reptile keeping, they train soldiers and fire service how to handle dangerous reptiles, they tell veterinary office about reptile keeping in pet shops and give them guidelines to check reptile keepers. Lots of reptiles are placed in new homes every month and it's a really big effort, cause they only give you an animal if you can prove you've got enough knowledge about husbandry. This shelter also houses animals like alligators or snapping turtles, which are forbidden to place by private people 'round here. There's no other place for them! And I've never met people working for years with heart and soul like this. Munich reptile shelter has crowded space, but they always try to find the best solutions for their animals. They got about 900 reptiles up to date, over the half are turtles (abandonned, confiscated, found in parks, delievered by overstrained or just helpless people).

Chameleons are patients there, too. This one in the picture is one of the patients I adopted and cared for. He was found in a shoe box at a staircase in february. He's a really severe case of metabolic bone disease. At the beginning of therapy, he couldn't climb and had broken ribs, a multiple broken spine, broken arms and legs. We fed and watered him every two hours, gave medicine and UVB. Unfortunately, this little guy only survived six weeks due to renal failure. But he had a chance and lots of other reptiles do survive with proper care.

Please help this shelter. Even only one dollar donated by each member will help staff and reptiles there a lot to continue their great work.

This looks like a great facility. I just donated 15 Euros ($20.22 in US dollars). Hopefully others are inspired - I don't even speak German but I was able to link to Paypal and make a donation. Let's help our friends across the pond save this place and help even more reptiles!! :D
