I don't have problems with our old cat. He is nearly blind, and all he does is walk from room to room and sleep on the back of the couch. But just from putting my xl reptibreeze together I can only imagine what his claws could do to that screen if he started scratching it. I was so afraid myself that I would accidentally make an unwanted rip in it while fastening all the branches and vines. It's stronger than I thought, but I'd never take a chance if I had a young cat. I'm not even a fan of sitting my lamps and dripper directly on top, so I made a framed screen out of hardware cloth to set everything on so it wouldn't sag. I did cut away the wire under the uvb strip though, so it wouldn't have a chance of blocking any of those precious rays.
My two cats have since passed on, but they were both old and never bothered with the chams while they were in their enclosures. I’m not sure they even knew they existed as I use my fake plants on the outside of the screen door to provide extra privacy and cover the back and sides with (at that time) a faux background. When I had a young cat and a crazy kitten staying with me, I did not leave them unattended in the room with my chameleons as they knew they were there. It also helped that I keep my enclosures sitting up quite high and there is nothing for a cat to leap from to get to the enclosure top. They still could have climbed the screen if they wanted and had the chance. I adore cats, but they absolutely can not be trusted to be left alone in a room with small animals.
