I'm using the compact. Why is it not suggested? What are the benefits of the tubular bulb? Your input is appreciated.
The compact damages your chameleon's eyes and can cause it to go blind.

Please point out its not simply because its compact and not all compact uv brands.
Better to be safe than sorry, true enough, But just I wonder how much buisness profit has been lost to manufacturers of compact UV bulb brands that were not causing problems, because folk now choose to avoid all compact uv bulbs ?
Some poor smuck somewhere, must sigh sadly when reading such an open statement, Knowing hes just lost another potential sale/future sales.
Note: I dont use one, but there are many brands and im sure atleast some must be in regular use somewhere without apparent neg effect?
mind you, I cant really think of a benefit to a shorter bulb for emitting uv since they dont offer the broad arc of output that tubes do over a greater area/length.
That said, Ive never held a great deal of faith in Any artificial uv bulb or tube, I much prefer natural sunlight and im sure reptiles do too.
Fortunately I live in a very sunny climate and arguably the greatest diversity of reptile species anywhere on the planet!
Im sure theres a correlation.![]()
