which is preferable?
just dump the insects in the cage and let them wildly hopping or flying in the enclosure or put all the insects in a plastic jar and let the cham shoot them from above?

i prefer releasing them in the cage freely..
but how do i monitor my baby's eating dose?

I think that the general concern is that free roaming insect (especially at the bottom of the cage) will come into contact with feces and bacteria. Good sanitation and daily cleanings will eleviate those issues. Personally I like my feeders to roam free to stimulate my chameleons natural hunting behavior plus its fun to watch. When feeding babies I use the plastic jar, it concentrates the insect making them easier to find especially in a large cage.. You can also monitor the amount they eat by a simple count

I feed Victoria by dropping a worm on one of her vines and she will run down and hunt it. Or I will drop 2 crickets into her enclosure and she will get them on her own. Crickets seem to climb them vines or plants where she will hunt them down. I don't put anything more in there other then what she will eat and if I find a worm a day later I will remove it and put a fresh one in.

Howdy,

For babies, I use a small white plastic cup rasied about 6" off of the bottom, with a couple of 3" sticks placed in them, leaned-up against the enclosure screen. This way, the 1 week-old crickets and hydei fruit flies can climb-up the sticks and onto the screen. The babies come over on their plant branches next to the screen and shoot-away :).
