Registering your Chameleon?

This might be stupid if so mod's feel free to delete. I was wondering why we couldn't have a panther chameleon kennel club? (Sans Kennel though) I mean wouldn't that be cool to have your chameleon and its lineage on paper officially? It would have to start with wild caught stock that could be verified to have come from the locale that they are classified as. I have never bred dogs so I don't know how their paper registration system works but this thought just ran through my head earlier and I was thinking about how cool it would be. What do you guys think? Cool or dumbass idea?

Cool idea, but probably impossible to do when it comes to Furcifer Pardalis. With so many different locales and importers that may not be truthful, totally impossible with this species IMO.

And would people be able to create new 'breeds' like they do/did with dogs? I'm not so sure I'd like that...

I think it's a cool idea. She didn't say it would be easy but i think it might be doable. At least for some of them. It would give everyone a better idea as to who they are breeding with who and, if in actuallity, they are related from way back when...We are actually in the process of doing that with our bearded dragons. Again difficult to start but doable.

Yea

Yea but y dont the chameleon owners as a whole and have like a AKC but with the chams and not just stop with just panthers but all species like carpets, jackson, and veiled because these beautiful creatures should be shared. Personally

It was attempted and it was not successful. Breeders would not input their bloodline information into the system, people would not keep their records up to date and people seemed convinced it was an attempt to be "the chameleon police" rather then a helpful resource. Here was an article written when trying to get it started: http://www.chameleonnews.com/?page=article&id=68

Yes, this idea has been tossed around for the last 10 years or more. It gets mentioned and then no one wants to do the work required to make it a feasible enterprise. Like Chris said the site can be available but the keepers and breeders have to participate to make it work.
