My Chameleon: Male Ambilobe Panther; 6 1/2 months old.

Handling: Usually not much maybe onceevery couple weeks so i can clean his cage. Recently everyday to apply oinment and to give liquid calcium.

Feeding: feed him every day 8-15 Crickets. Gut loading with high calcium cricket diet food, mashed up left over veggies from my fathers juiceing, and some kind of yellow jelly, which is supposed to be like water or something. I got both products from Flukers Farm.

Supplements: Dust with Rep-cal w/0 D3 every day. Rep-cal W/ D3 and Herptivite twice a month.

Watering: automatic mister: I have all the lights and the mister on a timer. When everything comes on the mister goes for 30 seconds every hour. helps keep the humidity up.

Fecal Description: solid, black with white urate. have not checked this past week.

Cage Type: Screen cage, 18x12x20

Lighting: heat lamp, and UVB lamp

Temperature: basking area is around 87. Nighttime lowest it gets is 75.

Humidity: between 40 and 50. still trying to get it up as much as possible. i had to move him out of the pool area which is making it hard to keep humidity up.

Plants: One pathos, than a bunch of fake braches wrapped with fake vines

Placement: 4 or five feet off the ground on top of a counter. No vents. I have an indoor pool, and the room never drops below 78 degrees because my mother has tropical birds living in there as well. The birds do not make a lot of noise and I put my chameleon far away from them. I had to recently move him becuase we are having work done on the pool and i though the noise would freak him out too much.

Location: Midwest

Problem:
He started shedding a couple days ago and he still has a lot of it attached to his body. i was supposed to take him to the vet, but I called and told them what was going on and they said to let him be and i reshceudled for saturday. He has stopped eating, which is actually not so unusual for him since he would stop eating right before his other sheds, and today his eyes looked sunked in and he seemd lathargic, although i did check on him only 10 mins or so after his lights came on this morning. in terms of him eating i just got the rephasy all in one stuff and wanted to see if that would intice him to eat but no luck. I tried putting him in the shower yesterday after i got home from work to try and help the shed but he really didnt like that and kept trying to run away off his tree. he would only be still while resting on my hand so i kind of just held my arm out for 5 to 10 mins. i sprayed his cage really good this morning and got the humidity up to about 70%, but i wont be home from work until 5:00 today. i have attached a picture from last night. he looked pretty much the same when i checkd on him this morning and he was still in the same spot as well. Any suggestions on what i should do when i get home would be great.

upping the misting or showering them helps with the shed. If his eyes are sunk in that could also be de hydration

They are never happy when shedding. its itchy and uncomfortable.
Im not sure what problem you think he has....

He just seems so lethargic and weak. his last few sheds were so quick i would leave in the morinig to go to work and there wouldnt be any sign of him shedding, and by the time i got home in the evening he was done shedding. the fact that its dragging on for 2 days now, and that he hasnt eaten anything and wont move to drink anything worries me. I just want to do everything i can to help him. i was thinking about trying the shower thing again and trying to prop the tree up higher... i also have some shed aid that i never used, i was thinking about trying that as well just to speed things along.

Well first, hes almost 7 months old, shedding can take a bit longer at this age.
how is his grip when you old him?
and just because he sits there doesnt mean he is lethargic.
you probably wouldnt move alot too if your skin was peeling off everywhere.
and ebcause of his age, he may simply not be hungry, and my guy NEVER ate when he shed. he can go a few days without food.
and even though you dont see him drink, doesnt mean he isnt.
ive only my male veield since he was 2 weeks old, hes 10 months now, ive seen him drink... 5 times.. thats it.
how do his urates look?

The shower will help, but i wouldnt use the shed aid, just isnt worth it higher humidity, and showers will help.

His grip yesterday seemed ok. held on to my hand pretty good while my hand trembled from holding out my hand in the shower lol. I didnt want to move him this morning.

when chameleons shed do some of them go into like a "sleep mode"? because the way he is laying, and the fact his eyes are close, looks similar to when he sleeps

In the picture i posted you can see a sample of his urates/ ficecs. not alot of urate, some white, some light orange at the tip.

Oh, poor baby. As noted, the more mature chameleons can take some time to shed. I do think he would benefit from more hydration though. Can you put him on a plant in the shower and then leave him there for 20 minutes or so?

I know you said you put him far from the birds, but can he see them? If so, maybe a visual barrier of some kind (a towel?) would help him feel more secure.

Im sorry. i grabbed the care sheet from one of my old post. right now i have him in a different room of the house. the humidity level is still the same. no birds around him. I know im supposed to use warm water and aim the shower head against the wall so the water bounces off on to the plant, but how does the shower affect the chameleons temp? is the max amount of time he should be in there 20 mins and than immediatly back to his basking spot? also any tips as to how to keep him from trying to dive bomb off his tree while in the shower?

I've seen people report leaving them in the shower for 30 minutes. As long as the water's warm enough, it's not going to make him cold. After that, it's back to the basking spot (if that's where he wants to stay).

As to keeping him on the tree, I think once he gets over the initial displeasure, he'll want to be on the plant in the "rain". The first moments of "water contact" often produce dramatic dances of denial, but they eventually work out that it's a good thing.

Does it matter how often you put them in the shower. Like if i put him in it yesterday and than again today should i not put him into tomorrow?

So when I got home tonight Reggie looked worst than when I left this morning. So I immediately put him in the shower. After about 5 min of initial shock he settled down and started drinking water. It's been about 2 hours since the shower and he looks rejuvenated. His eyes are open he is being very active and his colors look great. Alot of the excess skin fell off and he actually seems happy. He must have been still thirsty because he let me hand feed him water from a syringe, which he usually hates, and his eyes are no longer sunked in. Thanks again for the advice.

Glad hes feeling better. sometimes the shedding just makes them miserable. and being deydrated doesnt help either.
i would shower him for a few more days until he gets rehydrated more, since he seems like he was pretty deydrated today. JMO>
and good luck!
