I think i read a while back or maybe saw on another care sheet, that refresh tears (eye drops) could be used to clean out our chams eyes if they ever get a eye problem. is this true or am i mistaken? i ask because i am headed to target in the morning and want to pick some up just to be prepared. rather have it on hand then have to get it later if a problem were to arise. my second question is if i am correct and you can use refresh tears do u think it would be alright to buy the target brand (on bottle it says compares to refresh tears). thanks

I use plain saline.....

I've used plain saline solution for years. Not the contact lens cleaner that has other stuff added.

Use saline solution... nothing else should be added or in the solution.

If you are just going to clean out an eye you can hold your cham down on the table and place a towel down... gently, with a continuous flow squirt or... spray... the fluid into the eye of the cham. don't put too much pressure, you want just enough that the turret lifts a little... or inflates... but only a small amount. Inflating indicates the fluid is getting around inside and cleaning. Last time I went to see Dr. Greek he did this to Fred for me and showed and explained how to do it... If you have an issue that keeps coming back you might want to get some terramycin from LLL Reptile. Put a dab on the eye maybe twice a day depending on the infection. But keep in mind eyes that coat over can also be a Vit. A issue. So take a look at your gut load and supplements.

You shouldn't need to clean out your cham's eyes very often if you are providing a good misting cycle. This allows them to clean out their own eyes.... if you are having to do it for them often there is prolly a husband issue that needs to be addressed.

You want the sterile saline RINSE, not the cleaner. Refresh Tears has other ingredients like preservatives and other man-made lubricants that keep it from washing off the eye surface when you blink. Chams won't need that stuff.

thanks everyone! I will get some plain saline solution. I dont plan on using it, just want to have it on hand if he were ever to get a eye problem.
