Red Bulge Protuding from Chameleon

My Panther Chameleon has a red semi-translucent bulge protruding from his anus. I would say it is about the size of the tip of my thumb. He recently shed (last week). Any idea what it could be. Also, he has been hanging out on the wire mesh of his cage, rather than in the tree.
Please Help..

From looking at all the images of a prolapse, it doesnt look like that. Do they look different sometimes?
And how long do I have? I noticed this yesterday. It is Saturday night, and no vets are open on Sundays. I live over an hour away from any Vet ERs.

any kind of bulge coming out of the but is either a prolapse or a sperm plug. I havent dealt with either on a cham but I've seen a pig prolapse and it's definitely something that needs to be taken care of by a vet because it will get infected and wont go back in by itself.

I had this happen with my Cham, get it to a vet asap, mine unfortunatley was his colon and he had to have it surgically removed.

Good luck through you ordeal and I pray that it makes it thru, the vet will most likely tell you to keep the moisture up, maybe add a second heat light as they need all the heat they can get when they are injured to get blood to the area to help heal. The vet will most likely tell you the chances are slim but if you are positive and take extra care, your cham can make it through.

On a positive note mine had this done a couple months back and made it through, but you have to have alot of time to help it recover.

There are two types of prolapses in a male...hemipenal and intestinal.
Hemipenal...

This shows an intestinal prolapse in a turtle but it should give you the idea...

You need to keep whatever is hanging out moist (K-Y jelly is good for this) until it can be put back inside. If it starts to get darker in color its dying. This is very serious in the case of an intestinal prolapse especially. You need to get it to a vet ASAP!
