Recurring Impacted Sperm Plugs

How's Monty doing?

Still no interest in eating insects, but he's still basking and moving about. I gave him some more bug slurry this morning, however much he felt like drinking from the syringe. Will give him a break tomorrow to let him digest. I'm keeping the feeder cups stocked so I know when he starts going for live food again. I'm going to get his weight tonight if I can. Here are the current weight records I have for him:

01/22/16 - 120g (Latest vet visit)
01/19/16 - 122g (Taken by me)
01/09/16 - 125g (Taken by me)

12/07/15 - 118g (Last vet check with his previous owners. I took ownership of him on 12/8/15)
07/15/15 - 96g (from vet records)
01/09/15 - 29g (from vet records)
12/26/14 - 25g (from vet records)

Probiotics look to be set to get here on Thursday so once those arrive, I'll give some to him.

Well scratch that. My husband just let me know that he ate some superworms from his milk jug feeder! I would have preferred that he ate from the roach bowl, but anything is good at this point.

Unfortunately Monty has gone off food again. I'm not sure if it's because of another impaction, but it's following the same pattern. I sent an article about chameleons and vit A to my vet about a week ago and we discussed it today, so I'm bringing Monty in next week so we can try out some things. Apparently my vet knows one of the authors and is going to give him a call, so hopefully we can get something figured out, if it is truly hypovitaminosis A that is causing his issues. I'm worrying that the vit A drops I was giving him weren't being absorbed as well as they might if I could have gotten them onto a feeder. He won't hand feed so it makes it hard to be sure of what he eating, when he is eating.

I've been trying to get a fecal sample from him so we can test for coccidia, but he's only had two that I have found in the last two weeks, both of which I didn't get to in time to collect and refrigerate.

Sorry Monty isn't eating again :( Hopefully your vet can get him straightened out!! That is a really great article! I'm very interested in what your vet has to say especially after talking to one of the authors. Keep us posted. I really hope Monty feels better soon...poor guy has had a rough time!!

Hope you and the vet can get things figured out for Monty, just saw your in North Florida. Nice to see another person one here from our parts, I'm in Atlantic Beach. Just out of curiosity what vet are you going to?

I'll be bringing him in on Friday so hopefully he'll have some things to try. This morning I teased out some sperm plugs from Monty and right after he was kind enough to provide a fecal sample that I dropped off about an hour ago, so at least that's out of the way. The plugs didn't seem as impacted as the past times, so maybe the vit A is just taking a while to work into his system, that or I simply caught them sooner.

You're definitely in my part of the woods, I live in the Monument area of Jacksonville! I've been taking him to Dr. John Rossi at Riverside Animal Hospital. His previous owners had been taking him there over the year that they'd had him.

Glad to hear that, he's the vet I would have recommended locally!

He's been great to work with, and I'm really glad he's in town. Monty actually served as a model for impacted sperm plugs in the newest lizard health book he's working on.

Well Monty received a vitamin A shot on 2/12 but I'm not sure that it's doing any good. He's still not eating on his own and has dropped down to 116g. I started feeding him bug juice again this morning, and managed to get a couple waxworms into his mouth a few days ago. I'm honestly not sure where else to start looking to find the cause of his issues. The vet is closed today, and tomorrow I work while they're open, so I guess Friday I'll make a call and see what he thinks.

@ferretinmyshoes, hopefully you don't mind me tagging you, but I would love to hear your opinion if you don't mind.
