reason for hissing

My chameleon is 5 months old, last weekend i went away on a white water rafting trip and had my mom overlook him while I was away. Whenever I had the chance to take him out and handle him he was puffing and hissing at me but not being aggressive kinda confused me a bit. thought maybe he was trying to fire up since he hasnt really yet. after a few mins i put him back into his cage almost immediately he pooped. so than thought maybe that was why...

hes pooped on my hand before thought, any thoughts?

Not sure about the hissing thing, but my panther loves to poop when he gets out of the cage. On my hand, on the carpet, found a lovely big thing on my keyboard yesterday. :)

Your handling is just annoying him, not defensive, just annoyed.
That is what they do to tell you they dont want to be bothered.
If he felt threatened, he would try to bite you.

So it's likely he does not consider you a threat, he just doesnt want to be handled at that moment :)
