Rant Rant Rant...Darn Pet Store

I found a pet store somewhat close to my area that "specializes" in reptiles. To be completely honest with you, my local Petsmart takes much better care of their reptiles then this place did, that's saying something!!

To my amazement they had Mellers, not one but two!! And to more of my amazement they were TOGETHER in a medium size exoterra glass cage. They had no where to climb, no obvious humidity, and there was a sheet of paper towel of the floor of the cage. One was looking decent as it probably just got to the store and the other was in awful condition. It broke my heart, the only thing in that store that wasn't suffering were the fish.

Even better, one of the employees came up to me and started telling me about chameleons. I told him they were Wild Caught and he tried to persuade me that they were "bred in America" but he didn't know where from. These poor chams..I couldn't even believe it.

They also had kittens in wire cages that they were giving for free, I'm going back to the store today to take pics and grab an older kitten before it shreds up its feet. I am SO UPSET!! I've already looked up Oregon laws and going to find a place I can complain to about the care of the animals. I've found a few very negative reviews from last year and current. They need to shut down..now!

Sorry for the rant, I know there are so many threads on Petsmart and Petco but this was a whole new level of neglect.
 
Go get em M, I find myself never going into a pet store large or mom/pop that carries herps. Can't stand to look at the conditions.
Let me know what happens with Oregon laws

Open a massavie can of woop arse on that store my friend! they are going to get there well deserved at some point, so it may aswell be you that does it (give'em hell) :D
 
Well I found out Oregon has some pretty decent laws in place to protect animals though not enough to close them down but maybe enough to get a visit from animal control. I'll see what I can do...I'm still amazed they had Mellers, these things were huge!!
 
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CAAAAAAARRRRRREEEEEEESSSSSSS. :confused::confused: obviously i care about the animals, but what can you do? nothing. why do we still post threads like this?

Well quite clearly you don't!!!! If we were all as small minded as you, then nothing would get done. As were not people like us try there best to educate and change companies that buy and sell specialised and not so specialised animals!!!!
 
doesnt always work buddy. money turns people ignorant. sure if persistant effort was made, then perhaps a change could and would be made. but it would only be temporary. im not closed minded matt, and with all due respect, i've been here longer than you and have seen more post about this nonsence. it only gets logical thinkers upset.

am i closed minded? no! i encourage change, and i encourage us all to work together. to help stabilize and regrow habitats and population in ECOSYSTEMS. but unfortunately, pet store horror stories are MEH and make me YAWWWWWNNNNNNNN.

i'm not heartless, senseless, closed minded or cold hearted. i actually do all i can to help out animals, so no need to jump to conclusions and base my personality or morals due to the quote "WHO CARES". cause i care about the animals, and wish they never got to the pet store in the first place. what i dont care about, are horror stories that are just gonna piss us off, when nothing is going to happen at the particular pet shop.
 
hey, i can't help the way people think. i say what i have to say.

maybe instead of posting what we seen, or instead of posting what we should do... then why dont you guys do what you should do first (behind closed doors), than post a Victory thread instead of consistent horror stories?

whats been accomplished instead of what is wrong and has been wrong for so long.

Don't assume by my status (and if you had bothered to check me out, you would have seen that i've been about abit!) that i've not been around a bit! Clearly you HAVE'NT been around long enough to understand pain and torture of an unwitting creature!! Try put youself into a commercialied situation, How would you feel if nobody gave a damb about who you were or where you came from, ( a bit strong i know) but only how much they could get for you at market?(imagine being a slave!) Would you feel a little unwanted/unloved? thats the problem with society today, everyone wants what they see now and to hell with the concequences!

Alot of people like to egnore instances like these because of what people like you say! and rely on others to do the talking.
They are all to willing to bury there head's in the sand and say and do nothing!
Well as you know me so well, you would of read my thread in relation to my petshop incident!!!! like now i will not stand by and be underminded and belittled by the likes of bullyies!!
Try using you SENIOR status to educate and not to bully with!! i am sure you've come across a few situation you feel that required your attention, but have lost the will to fight! don't lose the will because the odds are stacked against you.

lets break it down.

- son, i cant even stand to see roadkill on the road, let alone, i am well aware of the fact of how they are stolen from nature for a couple bucks, shipped through the corrupted animal trade, where our wallets buy the animal if (THEY ARE GOOD ENOUGH)

- we all cross paths with WC, and in someway, we ALL support WC (whether it'd be to obtain a certain species, or to work with new bloodlines.. that type of crap).

please don't be a hypocrite and say i dont understand pain and torture when (the WHOLE TIME from abduction in the wild, to shipment to pet stores internationaly...to even the end of their life in captivity) is all the animal endures. PAIN PAIN PAIN TORTURE AND DEPRESSION!

i feel effin terrible for the animals, which is why i have taken a couple bad shaped chameleons in.

honestly, no one on earth other than my family close friends and God, give a damn about me. i bet if i met you right now, theres not much you would do for me. because you don't care about me (in that sense)


i'm not trying to have a junky attitude here, but i clearly stated what i wanted (that pet shop horror storries) are nonsence and nothing will ever be done to help the animal trade, and pet shop cruelity for permanant amounts of time, and in small numbers.

i clearly stated (in this thread and in others) that these threads are a waste of time, but it would be nice to see a Victory story FOR ONCE, to take the place.








and mind you matt, i've been with the forum for the last 3 years, not just under ChamsInMyHouse screen name. these threads are nothing new, and i would much better answer the same noob questions day in and day out, than reading horror stories where the ONLY person that can do something is the OP of that thread.
 
we're going to be hypocrites whether we like it or not. we cannot captivate these exotic animals, and think we're doing the world a favor. the reality is, is those animals came from somewhere, and the animals of past generations came from somewhere too, the wild. we are, and always will rape these animals from nature for our benifits, no matter what kind of justifications we put in front of it. let's put it this way, it's OUR fault they end up sh***y pet stores in the first place, but we've ALREADY made that mistakes, and now as keepers, it is OUR responsibility to treat everything we have with respect and care

we have these animals now, and we do all we can in our power to give them the best life we can. never mind what the crooks are doing behind closed doors, never mind about the unknowledgeable pet store owners, never mind circus', never mind zoos! let THEM worry about their problems and what they do wrong, because it's only TEMPORARY in what they are making, we're not PETA. Greed will bite you in the ass anyways and you deff reep what you sow. let's just have fun and appreciate what WE have, let's take advantage of what we can do behind our closed doors. if we can make a difference, lets do something about then share the success, but bi****g about it here and not getting anything done about it is worthless. its all talk, and it makes me mad.
 
Alright guys let's relax...I worked with the pet store to get the chams in a better set up. They are now split up and had some nice long misting sessions. Can I guarantee they'll keep their chams in the right care, no, but hopefully the store will stick to giving them better care without having to patrol them.

The employees were trying their best under the knowledge they were given, I'm going back next week to do a check up and see if the set ups are suitable for their other reptiles.

I believe we all have to try for the sake of the animal. I've rescued quite a few cats that would've been euthanized otherwise due to their "mean" temperaments and their age from owners that had bogus reasons for giving up on their animals. They are all doing fantastic and happy as can be. I single handedly can't help every animal, I don't support many pet stores and the ones I do, I buy feeders from. If we all try to help out and make a difference then we can at least help one animal. It all starts with one guys. Be upset with the people who complain and don't do anything about what they see.

I respect both of you guys and your opinions, we all ultimately have the same goal.

Your a consumer, and as such come across very passionate and careing, about this thread!! so why not try and turn your passion into something more wothty than a pointless attack on someone that is trying to bring to attention this situation! don't get angry with US, get even with them! Don't leave it for some else to worry about, thats not in our nature as we all know.

Instead of just complaining about a sitiuation that you think is lost, join the crowd and do something,anything regardless if wether you think it's lost or not!

As nobody is writing in BLOCK CAPITALS as of yet, :D i think were all relaxed! i think it's a combination of the same old s**t but a different day, and there are a lot of passionate individuals in one way or an other that are trying to express there opinion. Irrigardless of the comments, our one tru aim should be the same.

Yes, as of yet we aren't trying to cut each others throats!! In the end, our goals are all the same. We all want our animals to be taken care of well and given the best of care. Still can't believe they have Mellers though.

It's quite frustrating to have a passionate discussion on the internet, without it sounding like you want to kill each other!! (i am all to aware what that's like) however this it's what it's all about, discussing and trying to get your point across in a controlled manner!

I am sure this won't be the last of this type of discussion, never the less i am sure all of us can learn from this.
