Quick Meller Question.

I've had my Meller for awhile now he seems to be doing great love him. He does something that I've wonder for a bit. He will sometimes open his mouth WIDE open, I may here like a tiny crackle maybe in his jaw or something because hes opening it so wide, then closes is mouth and puffs up. He doesn't get spotty, and he doesnt do this when something is near or bothering him, so I don't feel its a sign of stress/display. Why does he do this, is it a common meller thing? He gets like REALLY puffy and sits there in the light after gapping and inhaling a few times.

Might be a yawn or simply a stretch.

I've been lucky not to experience this with my chams, but I think that behavior can be indicative of a respiratory infection if it happens often and if you see a lot of excess saliva/mucus in the cham's mouth. Others feel free to correct me if I'm off.

Otherwise, it can be yawning or he could be too warm.

My veiled does it right after he eats and he's finished. I don't see anything like mucus or a lot of saliva.

My veiled will yawn like this. He puffs out his chin before he lets out a big yawn or two. Sometimes he will wiggle or stretch a bit when he does this.

It's not often, hell do it randomly a few times a week MAYBE if none at all. I keep a look out for that though, he seems pretty healthy since I got em.

What mainly concerned me was maybe its too hot? But it's more like a yawn where he opens it as WIDE as he can then closes is mouth, i think when its hot they just open their mouth an pant? He just does it a few times and never really new what it was

Definitely, didn't want to freak you out or anything, just thought I'd throw it out there just in case. Good to hear that that doesn't sound like the problem. :)

It sounds to me like he's yawning. They'll usually sit with their mouths open for a long time if they're too hot. What's the temp in his favorite basking spot?

Bout the low 80's. He can probly hit 90-100 if he was to hold up upside down in the cage near the light, but he never does that, the usual spots he'll chill in are more or less 80-85
