Im curious ...during the summer times when my house or room gets warm or hot... Do we still have to turn on the basking light or can we leave it off since the room is already warm and just keep the UVB lights on ?

also... Do u guys leave the basking lamps and UVB Lamps on for the same time and shut them off at the same time?

There are different methods but people will usually have both lights on the same timer. Usually giving a 12 hour day, but you can go for sun-up and sun-down timings if you like :)
For youngsters you will not usually need a basking bulb, but for older than 3 or 4 months is is best to give the cham a good range of temps so it can choose for itself.

depends how hot the room is.
Certainly a lower wattage basking bulb is common for my house in summer.

My basking light will usually go on/off within mintues of the UVB tubes, if not at the same time. The light from the window in the room comes on (the sun comes up) usually just before the lights.

Lets say the room is round 80-90 degrees? Would u turn off the basking lamp or use a 30watt bulb and lower?

I'd use a lower watt bulb and still have it and UVB on for the same length of time.

Chams associate the light with heat, so will still use it to bask.

That's what I intend to do anyway, but I imagine you will see higher room temps than over there than here in the UK so will be using a lower watt bulb! :D

I kill all of my basking lights or I turn off every other light and center the ones left on between cages if I don't my room gets over 90.

at 80F I might have a 10 - 40 watt bulb. but at 90F for more than a couple days, I likely would not have a basking bulb at all. if the whole room is 90F (probably still a little warmer at the top and a few degrees lower floor leve) on a regular basis, I would be turning on fans, maybe considering an AC unit.

So....if it hits 90 degrees for days...and I turn off the basking lights would u just keep the UVB lamps on for light or would u turn everything off. I have a lot of cages in my reptile room and it does heat up the room quite a bit...Im just preparing for when Summer comes since theres days in Cali that are already quite warm

Id leave the UVB on. dont leave them in the dark.
and buy a fan or whatever ;) they need to have the option to cool down, to thermoregulate, so letting the whole room be hot like a basking spot for days isnt a good plan.

I might not be the best person to take advice from on this though. Doesnt get hot like that for more than a handful of days in a year max where i live.
