Question.. Should I feed my chameleon more?

I've just fed my veiled chameleon, over 10months old, about 15 3/8ish size crickets and then about 5 small-medium super worms.. while I was hand feeding her the super worms.. I noticed she went for EVERYTHING that moved! She was sticking her tongue at my head and even farther away, my boyfriends moving hands that were way too far away for her to possibly catch. Does this mean she is still hungry? Should I feed her more???

I've never seen her go for moving hands and anything else like she was doing. A quick moving hand would usually scare her away easily but it was also a lot lower than where she was. She was hanging out of the pothos plant I placed recently outside of her cage. She was pointing her tongue out at my face even! Is it possible that being out of her cage broke her fear a little of me? :) Or is this a sign of not enough eating?

If your female is 10 months old, you dont want to over feed her.

You actually want to keep her just a bit hungry, which can help prevent egg production, or reduce clutch size.

also, you can feed a 10 month old full sized crickets.

How big can the dubia roaches be? I'm still waiting on my adult dubies to have babies and there are a few non adults that are smaller in size but I don't want them to be too big for her. Thanks! :)

I feed my 9 month old panther full size crickets no problem. 3/8" seems very small to be feeding her, I would go bigger. Also, I have read quite a bit on these forums about not feeding many supers as they are harder to digest and can cause impaction if fed too many, perhaps someone else can chime in about this. I wouldn't recommend feeding her supers every day. One or two once in a while as a treat perhaps.

Yikes! I've been feeding her a few superworms daily.. since all I have to feed her currently are the crickets & superworms. :\

& I did notice her poops to be a lot bigger than they usually are.. one was HUGE! It was maybe 3 inches long and the width of the beginning of her tail.

where in md do you live?

there is a reptile show tomorrow in baltimore that you can probably find other bug types at.

Im going hoping to find some silks and horns, and to hopefully add some more roaches to my colony.

I live about 15 minutes away from Baltimore. I didn't know Baltimore had a reptile show! The only one I knew about was the Havre De Grace, MD one that is about 50 minutes from me and its around the 14th of Feb (waiting for it! If I don't end up missing it again!) The time frame is like .. 9am-3pm.. which is only 6 hours!! I'm not really a morning person either so I keep missing it. :\

What time does it start/end? Do they have a website with the information? I'd love to go to one.. Would save a lot from shipping probably too! :D I haven't been to any reptile shows before.. and I've always wanted to go. I remember a long time ago an old friend said that they were going with a group of people to a reptile show and I thought to myself that I wish I was invited..

I would love to find a place that sells silks & the food for them locally. I kind of want to try to hatch the eggs. I ran into a shop that sold Hornworms but I had to drive passed a $2-4 toll and it was a good 30 minutes away as well.. :\ They were $1 each so I ended up just buying two. Is $1 each a good deal? I actually didn't even feed my chameleon the hornworms because I thought they were so cute looking @_@ Of course they ended up dying anyways.. (shame on me! probably a horrible death..)

its at timonium fairgrounds tomorrow and sunday, repitcon is the name of the event.

you should go, lots of fun. not a whole lot in the way of chams and waht not, but you can get supplies and bugs, which is why im going ( and to maybe get a new gargoyle gecko)

Thats pricey for horns, when you buy pods from online shippers, you can usually get a pod for like 15-25 dollars and it usually has 25-30 worms in it.

So cool! Thanks for the info. I'm going to look it up. :):)

What time is it from?

Found it! 10am-5pm! Great. Thanks so much. I can't wait! I hope they have banana roaches and isopods.. or I'll have to get them online. :-O! Might end up coming home with a little bit of everything.. I would have never thought to be so excited about buying bugs or things for a chameleon.. Like buying plants.

They have bulk crickets too? @_@ Bug paradise. Haha. I'll be so happy when I see some babies from my roaches myself. I keep checking every week or so, still waiting.

I have one question, have you ever purchased the VIP? Apparently there is a raffle going on and most of the really nice items are going to the VIP and 2 day pass people.. so it's kind of making me want to fork the extra $5 for a chance to win stuff. Have you participated in any of their raffles?
