Question about water (drinking habits)

I just got my veiled a few days ago, and I set up my dripper over the fake plant (like the lady at the pet store told me) and my chameleon drinks from everywhere except the leaves. I even mist them throughout the day. He sometimes sits next to his dripper and catches the water before it falls, and today he started licking the carpet at the bottom of the enclosure. Does anyone else's chameleon do this? Is there a way to get him to drink the water from the leaves or is it safe for him to drink the water off of the carpet?

If it isn't changed regularly I would think it could harbor some nasty bacteria. So If it were me I would encourage him as much as possible to not drink from it.

If he has a particular place on the carpet that he tends to lick, you could put something over the carpet at that spot...such as a large flat artificial leaf or a simple flat ceramic plate and can clean that more easily.
