i got 4 cups from mulberry farms and the hornworms are huge and i can see the dark blueish green down their spine, the heart beat, but so far all of them have died after that, am i supposed to do anything or is it just bad luck for me?

The worms will eat untill they reach full size. They will then stop eatting and become restless, at this point you will notice thier heart beats via the lateral line down thier backs. At this point they will more then likely be on the bottom of the pod trying to find a sutable place to pupate. Remove them from the pod and place them into a seperate container and allow them to pupate. You can put them into a container with potting soil or sand, and leave them. They take about a month to imerge as moths.

It's been pretty hot in our area, where are you storing these pods Trevor? Excess heat and humidity will kill them. Are you elevating one side of the cup to create ventalation?

thanx a bunch Jay! ur a big help i looked on google links and didnt find n e thing near as helpful as ur link! One thing i do need to figure out is if they prefer any plants over others, i know they lay on plant that larvae like to eat, but what the moths eat themselves is a mystery to me, any one know? or is it any flower with nectar?

When ya check out that link, it will tell you to fill a container with sugar water. I think it's about the same as you would mix for humming birds.

Oh must have missed it, lol i thought i read the whole site.

It is next to a picture of cup with a lid on it, that has 3 holes punched into the lid, there's a lot of info on that site. I was gonnna do hornworms, but I don't know if it's worth the trouble of having the specialized enclosure. I ordered some silks hoping they might be a little easier. It's getting a little pricey feeding horns, silks, crickets, and supers. Time to raise something myself. My try roaches, but that is looked down upon highly in this house, so only as a last resort..... I converted the 3 pages for raising them into a .pdf file so I could always have it on hand if needed, I can send you the .pdf files if you would like.
