Question about Gravid Chameleons

I currently have a panther chameleon and she kinda looks gravid but I'm not sure. She's never mated but it's rumored that certain chams can come into eggs w/o mating. I was wondering if this applies to Panther Chameleons...

Certainly. The eggs aren't any good without a first breeding, but females that are in season for the first time and not bred will produce eggs 10-20% of the time. If she keeps plumping up, you will eventually be able to pick her up, with or without her cooperation, and literally feel the eggs in her by gently palpating her abdomen.

Thanx. I'll keep an eye on her. I just hope she's getting a little fat instead of gravid. I went through this with a female Veiled Chameleon about 5-6 years ago.

Do you have a place for her to dig in the cage so that she can let you know she needs to lay eggs when the time comes? She could become eggbound and die if she has no where to lay the eggs.

If she does start digging, don't let her see you watching her while she is digging.

I haven't put her in anything as of yet but her condition has stablized. She isn't getting bigger. I have what I need waitng just in case.

IMHO its better to have an opaque container of washed playsand in the cage for a female to dig in when she needs to lay eggs so that you don't miss the often subtle signs that she needs to.
