Question about feeding Kale

Quick question: When feeding a chameleon Kale, is it ok for them to go nuts and rip into it like this, or should it be fed another way? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpY1PbChTEw

It was hanging in there for Crickets, but if he likes it, more power to him!

(and yes I know I posted in my other thread.. figured this would be a better place for the question.)

I don't know about the nutritional value of kale, I do know my beardy eats a lot of it, but they are two different creatures.

Also, my veiled chameleon eats hibiscus leaves the same way.

I can't answer your question I'm afraid, as Lily doesn't eat veggies (only the occasional nibble of a leaf). Just wanted to say that Norman looked so cute in the video! He's a determined little chap!! Thanks for sharing the video - it made me smile! Bless him!! :D

WTG! Your cham really wants that kale. My chams do the same thing. You can also chop it up or just tear it up into smaller pieces and put it into the feeder, or just hang a piece. It is good for your cham.

I think Kale is good for chameleons. High in Calcium, Potassium,Vitamin C, beta Carotene, Vitamin K, and has trace B vitamins, among other things.

I wanted to be able to monitor him for drinking, eating, etc so put a wireless security cam in place now I can watch him without pestering him.

placement is temporary until I can mount it just a little lower. right now he is fascinated with the water dripping, and wants to get at it, keeps ssstretching to try to get it so I hung another "stick" across higher near the drops. Now he is up there watching the drops :D

I just wanted to make sure him reaming on it with such ferocity wasn't going to hurt him.

Why not vary the greens and use kale one time, collards, dandelions, endive, escarole, mustard greens, etc. and veggies (strips of carrot, squash, zucchini, sweet potato, sweet red pepper, etc.) at other times??

As for it tearing into it like that, it should be fine. I have had veileds that will eat every leaf off a pothos plant at times (over a few days) with no problems.

I planned to when he got older.. he is only about 3 months old, and didnt expect him to dig into the Kale yet. :) It was a welcome surprise when going through what he did this morning after misting and his morning crickets.

The kale was in there in case any crickets jumped out of the feeder, to lure them back up top. I am going to try a salad type red pepper strip like I put in with the crickets tomorrow. Dandelion greens are out of season here. still snow on the ground.

a quick follow up: after a week of trying Collard greens, pepper, carrot, apple, etc. He ignored all of it. No interest. In fact he wouldnt go near the collard green. I went back to Kale this morning. HE has attacked it many times throughout the day.

So, ill stick with Kale. :p

Thank goodness, I thought I had answered on your thread but then I didnt see anything on here so I started to think I was crazy! Haha..

I think any organic veggies would be good. I know carrots are high in protein which is why I feed them to my crickets and Dubias. I would just make sure the Kale is completely washed so no pesticides are introduced.
