Pygmy Questions

1) Is eating a bunch part of the acclimation process? I just recieved a 1.2 trio and threw about 15 crickets in the cage yesterday, i watched one female eat like 5...(1/4 crickets)

Should i let them eat till their little hearts are content for a day or so or should i try and regualte it somehow.

2) My male LOVES hanging from the top of his cage. I keep moving branched around but he always finds a way up there.

Does him being upside down pose any type of problem? Im thinking about giving him access if he can prove to me that he can get down.

Thanks

They are monsters when it comes to eating and I do think you should let them eat what they want for a few days.
1/4 to 3/8 inch crickets are what I am feeding in addition to dubia nymphs (although the roaches hide quickly) Houseflies would be another good option.
My eventual feeding schedule will be 3 to 5 insects per chameleon every other day.
The males do like to be high up. Do you have a background on the enclosure?
My male is occasionally on the top screen as well, but manages to find his way down on the background.

No background but i did just put a stick that almost touches the screen so he can negotiate his way down.

These little things amaze me.

are they wc?

that amount should be fine, but too hungry can mean parasites.....

if they are wc chances are they have some hitch hikers, unless they were acclimated or treated before you got them.

check the feces( i like poop better, esp when talking about pigs :D they are too funny in the first place let alone when you use an imature? word like poop...i digress )

if you see worms ect in the poop start to handle that.

if you see them not gain any weight eating that much could be parasites.

female pigs get prego all the time, so take that into consideration as well.

adult pigs shouldnt need to eat as much as sub adult

Mine (just got last week; WC) were gobble, gobble, gobble the first several days, but now seem to have settled in. They'll eat, but they're not the eating machines they were at first (maybe a long trip in a dark box does that to you).

Yea they are WC, havent had a chance to examine any poop yet, is it worth having a fecal done? or should i just water down some reptaid and somehow figure out how to give it to them?

I got in some R. brevs and R. kerstenni. Be sure to mist them heavily and get them rehydrated. I love my pygs :D

I was thinking that in nature they are not used to seeing so much ffod right infront of them so they are like OMG A BUFFET!!!! then after a while they get used to it?

Not really sure how much I would worry about parasites.
(Actually, I'm not too worried about it at all)
Once they are acclimated the relationship they have with any parasites they are carrying should not be too much to worry about.
Eggs should be collected and hatchlings kept in a fresh "clean" enclosure.
Don't mix your babies in the wc adults enclosure.
Make sure you wash your hands before doing any work with your other chameleons.

edit: you might do one VERY LIGHT dusting of a few feeders with powdered panacur if you're really concerned, but I wouldn't do more than that.
