Put me at ease!! Not eating for a few days

Hi All,

I am sure I am worrying like a new parent, but like us all, I am always looking to make sure my lil guys are good.

In regards to my nearly 8 month old male panther, he has not eaten in three days. Leading up to this, he has slowly began to lessen the amount he eats as compared to when he was a bit younger and was a pig.

I offered crickets and dubias as well as a butter worm yesterday and nothing. The last thing he ate was 1 superworm on Sunday evening. I feed him 1 a week as he loves them. That being said, perhaps he is spoiled and holding out for more superworms?

Some details on husbandry:

Ambient room temp is 65-73, night to day. Basking spot is up to 89 and he has plenty of room to regulate in the 2x4 screened cage. Misters set for 3x 4min a day and cage dries out fine between sessions. Ambient humidity is 60-70% in the room.

The last time he pooped, yesterday, all looked fine.

He has been fed a varied diet, gutloaded well, and dusted correctly.

He is very active, color looks great, and I have noticed nothing that would represent any kind of illness.

A couple of thoughts.

1. The cold weather recently has but him into a different eating mode. It has been cool here the past few weeks, although the room temp has not gotten below 62.

2. He is reaching the age where his eating habits decline? This is my oldest panther, so again, never been through this phase.

Perhaps the two together?

Anyhow, any thoughts would be appreciated.

He could be on a hunger strike for the super worms :p

Or since it's colder I know some people talk about them going more dormant in the winters when it's colder so they could eat less..

Or like you said he could just be getting older and not eating as much 3 days isn't really that much, peoples chams go on hunger strikes for weeks. I think someone said 3 weeks once... Keep trying, don't let him get dehydrated, you may want to increase misting or what ever it is you use to keep him hydrated since he isn't getting any water from his food.

SO i tried a lil experiment. I grabbed a Superworm and the minute I placed my hand in the cage he was all over it, so......

Clearly he is playing me!!

Good news is that it would appear that he is not ill or not eating, he is just holding out for the candy!!

So i guess the question now is, for those who have faced this stubbornness, how long will they go before they get hungry enough to eat whatever. Also, how long is ok?

Thanks all.

Im having the exact same problem as you..
And hasnt eat anythng for 3 days too!!
Im really worried just like you....
I ope someone jumps in and tell us what to do -_-

Don't let him trick you! Like I said before some chams go WEEKS without eating and are still fine, while I do not suggest letting it get too out of hand keep offering the normal crickets and what not or maybe other worms, and when he finally gets hungry he will break
