Just wanted to share with you guys that after having our two adult females and one adult male hissers for only a couple weeks, they've already given birth to about 50 of these little guys! Amazing! :D

It's true what they say, "It's the little things in life!"

I just got my hissers in the mail today... *Shudders* I don't think I will ever get over the creepiness of these things. I get chills just thinking about it.

Congrats on the babies!!

At this rate, you will have 5 billion in 6 months. Hope the chams are hungry;)

Uggh! Congratulations ...? I think, lol! :D Yuk! Got any pics of them? It's taken me long enough to get used to the way the crickets run around in the tub! Don't know if I'll ever be brave enough to order roaches, lol!

I have no problem with little crickets but those ones with massive abdomens and those huge mandibles just make me want to crap myself.:)

LOL, feeders can be really freaky!

I had no problem feeding Peanut by hand before, just pick whatever up and let her zap it. A friend visited and met Peanut for the first time, i fed her a locust to show him what to do and then offered him a turn... I got two reactions.
1. i cant touch that
2. Dont you feel like you are murdering it.
I asked him to explain, he was like, well you picked that one out and are holding it in place to die... agreed...murder. I said well she needs to eat and this is a way of me bonding with her hopefully. I asked him what he would do, and he said he prefered just the cup feeding that way she decides who is to die.
The whole thing sorted of made me laugh... until i put in some roaches i'd bred  poor babies, hehe

Hissers are awesome. They have interesting social behaviours - much more interesting than most roaches. I've had Bob the hisser for about 5 years. He's a great pet - no smell, no biting, easy care and very little sound. And Bob's children make good feeders for the frogs and chameleons.

I think i would b able to get used to hissers faster than dubia...
Male Dubia looks too similar to the normal nasty roaches...

Someone needs to glue a thread to one and pin it to their shirt..A roach broach. Then take a pic for us..*still shudders*

I recently purchased about 50 adult Hissers to feed to my frogs. I didn't realize people regularly feed the nymphs to their chameleons. I'm just wondering why breed Hissers to just feed off the babies? Hissers are pretty expensive. Are there benefits to using them over Lobsters or Dubias?

OK, I HAVE to ask........how many of your feeders have names??

I have a small colony of hissers too, It has been my first attempt at insect breeding. I hate opening the thing they are in but they sure don't smell as bad as crickets. Breed well too.

Are dubias superior in some way? I'm afraid to feed my panthers any larger than an inch, and the darn hissers escape the cup... and then burrow into the plant :( my male does take them from my hand though (ew) and runs to the front of the cage now when I have one.

couldn't have said it better myself.

congrats on your babies, something only a mother colud love.:D:D:D

Well said, lol, Laurie! I couldn't believe I found myself picking them up today while cleaning the cage and not even batting an eye over the idea of touching them! (The babies that is!!) I can stroke the backs of the adults and now they don't even hiss at me when I'm doing it...but the idea of picking up the adults makes me do the pee-pee dance! lol!

We had more babies again! They've been munching pollen, carrot, kale, collard greens, etc. They're so happy in their clean home. Everyone was right about them not smelling!

Our baby crickets are doing well too. There must be a thousand in there. And Phil received 20 pair of Dubias last week! We have nests of praying mantis waiting to be born, and silks and horns will be next. We've got all kinds of projects around here! I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE INTO INSECTS!!! They are so amazing!

I still think I'm going to need a shot of something strong to eventually pick up the Hisser adults though!!!
