Prospective Chameleon owner

Hi guys,

I love chameleons, and I was hoping that finally I might be in the right position in my life to take one on, but I want to make sure that I full understand whats required to take care of one. I have done some research on the web, and I get most things, but I do have a question about the spraying.

I read that a chameleon's require daily misting, which is ok, but I was wondering, I have seen automatic sprayers (about £150 ish), which are supposed to simulate rain - if you have one of these do you still need to spray?

Also, I have three cats - none of them are particularly bothered by the fish, and I dont think they would cause the Chameleon any bother, but I was curious as to whether anyone else kept them with cats?

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

Hey,
Welcome to the forum.

Usually you don't have to hand mist if you have an automated mister. The only time I will say you'll have to is when your cham sheds, so you can give some extra humidity assisting the cham in the shed.
Also it depends on your cats. My cat couldn't careless about my cham.

If you have an automated mister then you will not have to spray. The misiting if for them to drink and to help maintain humidity. You might find it beneficial to run a dripper for hydration purposes. My two chams do not drink from the mist. They choose to drink from the dripper. Also, every chameleon is different. Your chameleon may be totally stressed by the sight of your cats. There have been a few cats that have killed chameleons on here. One knocked a cage over, one got out and got killed that way. Both of my chameleons are not bothered by my cockatiel, but others might be. You have to see how they all interact when you get your chameleon and make the necessary changes if there is a problem.
