Pros and cons from a breeder male

My buddy wants to buy a CB cham that is 2 years old. The cham was a breeder male only. He produced some nice clutches. My buddy wants him as a pet only. Would he be better off with some ones pet cham ( as he wants an adult) or would the ex breeder be ok as a pet? Is there any pros & cons with a purchase of a cham that was just a breeder? Thanks

If he's just looking to have a pet, it depends what he wants in it. If the animal is not friendly, and that's something he's looking for (I don't think you should buy a cham to handle a lot anyway, though), maybe he should raise one. I don't see a real downside to buying an adult though, other than the age. If he's already 2, there may only be a few years left in him. Good luck

The only way to truly answer your question is to understand what you mean by the terms 'breeder' and 'pet cham'? In my mind there really should be no distinction. We're not talking about show ponies here.

If by 'pet cham' you mean a cham that enjoys being handled and likes to sit on your lap whilst you watch football games, then you probably have a misconception about the kind of creature we are dealing with here. Chameleons are always display animals - not 'pet' type animals no matter whether you are breeding them, or simply keeping them for the enjoyment of having a magnificent creature like this in your house.

So help me out here, what do you foresee the problem being with your friend wanting to convert this 'breeder' into a 'pet'?

Depending on who the breeder is they usually keep or get top quality chams. This would mean magnificent colors and bars. No imperfections. If this is what the (breeder cham) is then the pros would be he is a perfect specimen, and proven breeder. The only down fall I could think is that he is 2 years old. That is 2 years of life you wont get out him. If you are looking for a breeder this would be a good choice.
