Problems with hard water?

you have to be careful because municipal water treated with chlorine doesn't mean hard water
hard water means its very high in mineral and dissolved solids
because most chameleons don't drink a lot and even if they did the amount of solids in a water isn't astronomically high,
imo i believe the problems would be acumalative, or over time

I don't think chlorine is the problem its fluoride that can cause damage . you can leave tap water out 24 hrs prior to use but I don't think that helps with the fluoride. I use repti- safe for the chlorine we don't have fluoride here and are water comes from a underground aquafur.

Actually water hardness only measures minerals (calcium, magnesium, etc.). Dissolved solids are measured separately.
Hard water isn't bad as drinking water, it is actually better then artificially softened water since a water softener adds a lot of sodium to your water (which isn't good for us, but can be really bad for certain species of chameleons, such as melleri, that don't have the ability to excrete access salt).
The reason people don't like hard water is because it's bad for dishwaters and washing machines - detergents don't work as well and the machine will use more energy. Hard water also dries out your skin more.

also i'm sure most people would agree that its better to give them tap water in the time being than no water at all, so if you need to get your guys hydrated do so, supplement with as much fresh misting water as you can and try to work out a solution as quickly as possible!
