Prices

Do prices at reptile shows differ from prices on the web? I've never been and am planning to go to the Tucson show in September and then the Phoenix Reptile expo in November. I know that you get free feeders and stuff like that sometimes, but would prices on cages/chameleons/cage decor be lower than usual?

Just wondering because I was planning on buying a female veiled to breed with my male but I've decided that it wouldn't be good for me or the chameleons as I would not have time to juggle school, a job, and take care of every single one of my pets includeing a whole bunch of chameleon babies. So instead, I'm wanting to buy one male panther. I did my math and everything added up to about $600 not counting food. The $600 cost is with everything at the maximum price. Trying to find ways to lower this. :)

sometimes they do deals, but i think just saving the price of shipping is worth it

I see. I was planning on buying the chameleon from kammerflage or screameleons and the cage on the web unless it's cheaper at the shows. But then i'd buy everything else at a store or the shows.

i would just save your money further and focus on the enclosure first, then save a little on the side for an medical problems

at the shows i do know the kammers has usually discounted prices but noth very much

maybe from 300 dollars to 275 , or 275 to 250

if you want a decent price and good chams then give jim from chameleon company a call thats my tip lol

Wow those prices on chameleon company are cheap compared to what i've been looking at! I'm gonna have the cage ready way before i get the chameleon so that will be the first thing i save up for

I would start by checking craigslist and other such sites in the Phoenix area, it's a great way to find your enclosure. Also, there is Pets Inc in Tempe - that is where I bought my first panther back in 2000/01. Back then the reptiles were of very good quality, they ran a clean store, and the guys back then were very knowledgeable and most kept the same animals they talked about. I haven't shopped there in better than 5 years now, so I can't speak of what it's like today. They have a website, so just google them for it. The Phoenix show usually had some good deals too, and the Kammers are awesome folks to buy from- that is where my current Panther came from. Being in that area your biggest challenge will be regulating humidity levels - so figure that in to your costs if you don't already have one for the Veiled you have and remember that Panthers generally require higher humidity then Veileds. BEst of luck & post some pics when you get him.

A sugestion before you buy is to do research on the vendors that are going to be at the show. I have found well at the shows here in southern cali anyways that there are always some kind of deal at the shows. You can even haggle prices with vendors most of the time. The best part of all is being able to hand pick your chameleon in person. If you dont find anything at the show then order it online. Remember that when paying a higher price your paying for quality. Your paying for the time and effort in breeding and raising the chameleons which is not easy let alone cheap to do. Just some food for thought.

I go to Pets Inc. all the time for feeders and just to look at everything they have there. It is an amazing store. But the past few times I've been there their chams aren't the best looking. I went about 2 weeks ago and they had a panther with severe mbd, a veiled that was very skinny with sunken eyes, and a jacksons with his eyes closed. They're in the right set up so I don't know if they buy the animals like this or what. But other than going that time all their chameleons have looked fairly healthy. I've talked to the manager many times when I first started to go there and he talked me out of getting a Jackson's because of my inexpierience at the time. They are extremely informative.

I use a humidifier to keep the humidity up and it works pretty well. I'm going to suran (sp?) wrap the bottom foot of my current cham cage this weekend when I clean it as that was recomended on here for higher humidity too. So I will be doing the same with the panther.

What I always do is find some local keepers and try to make deals as we meet up at the shows... as well as get in touch w the dealers and if there is something you want for sure make arangements to meet up and pick it up there.. saves on shipping and you get to see it first hand... but like I said .. the best deals i've gotten at reptile shows are with other keepers...

Very true!!!

Fear is correct too. Ive never dealt with Chameleon Co. but i have dealt with Chad at tikitiki in the past and still talk to him every now and then at the shows and online. He is always personable and will always answer questions. Not to over look that his CB chameleons are very very good quality.

I'd love to be able to hand pick the cham. The shipping makes me nervous but it seems like the only option almost.

I don't know of any local breeders here in AZ. I've only read/ heard good about tiki tiki reptiles so I will look into him as well.

Another option is to mingle around the site. There are other members of this forum from Arizona that might be able to help you out or even might be selling themselves.

This is what I do... I look through to find some people local... I just bought a trio from a guy 5 minutes down the road:D... start a thread for anyone going to the show and look for members from your area... You'll meet some cool people and have a support system to buy and trade with, have a food source in case of emergencies.. and be able to pester them with questions :D

Kammerflage Kreations has been doing this for years, and you will have tons of options and a built in source of knowledge that is time tested and proven. I'm not knocking anyone else (Tiki, Cham Co, etc), I'm just giving my opinion. Prices are very fair for the quality and experience you get when you make a purchase. Just speaking from my own experience with the Kammers.

Kammers are great! And I have been trying to get an AZ group together but so far I have run into a lack of interest.

Also for the most part the chams at pets inc right now are rescues that were dropped off and not for sale. My only gripe is I am not sure they are getting enough care for them to recover.

.

you can thank syn for that she can ruin it for everyone lol she will probably have the whole group planking or coning or something like that!!!:D

I got both of my chams from Jim at The Chameleon Company. As far as price is concerned, I don't think he can be beat. The quality of his chams speaks for itself. Born and raised in Florida sunshine.

Yeah i looked into his website and the chams he has up on there are beautiful. I will probley lean more towards the chameleon company as they are alot more cheaper.
