Pretty sure that I'm losing him

I am so sorry, we are in the same boat with sick chams :(

It sounds like you and your vet will need to hydrate him via IV syringe, since
all attempts to open his mouth have failed.

Is it possible to just leave your cham with the vet so he/she can treat him?

I know what your going through, the frustration and helpless feeling :(
Just try to hang in there and think positive.
 
Thank you, Pyschobunny. I hope both our guys get better soon. Winston goes back to the vet on Monday, and I'm hoping he's at least a little better by then. I put a small hornworm on a branch near him, I'm hoping he goes for it. Maybe something small and soft will be easier for him to eat.
 
I hate to say it, but Baytril does that, some chams will not take food or water!!

You may have to bite the bullet, and force feed him strained bug juice mixed with pedalyte via a syringe or pipette.

It VERY important that he stays hydrated while on the Baytril.

This is what I have had to do with Squee.

Feel free to PM me and I will explain how I made the bug juice and how I was
able to get his mouth open.
 
Not any better that I can tell, but I don't think he's any worse. Thank you for asking, Kath. He goes back in to see the vet on Friday morning. Hopefully, the antibiotics will kick in. I don't see him drinking, but have seen him hanging out by the dripper, and saw water droplets on his nose, so I'm hoping he is drinking, just not while I'm watching. He does seem more peppy in the morning and draggy by the afternoon, not sure if that means anything or not. :confused:
 
At least he's hanging in there. Hope all goes well on Friday. Hoping he starts on the up soon. Kath.

Dont assume he is drinking, that is what Squee is doing exactly, walks up
to the dripper cap, sticks his nose in it, and walks away!!

If I dont personaly SEE him actually drinking (which I have not) I will force
it down him. Since not eating much, no poop to check the urates!!
So, he gets about 3cc of pedilyte via pipette every day.
 
Hi Pyschobunny. This morning I did get him to drink from the misting bottle. I went through 1 1/2 bottles just misting his little face. The first 1/2 bottle, he just let it run over him, then his misting system kicked on and he OPENED his mouth. I opened the door and he didn't run away like he usually does. He let me continue misting his head and mouth and drank for a good long time. I'm going to try priming him with the spray bottle, then kicking on his AZ and spraying him some more. That seems to be working. I put some butter worms in his worm feeder, and one on a branch. I'm hoping that he'll be tempted. If not, if he opens his mouth to drink again, I'm going to try putting one in. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but I'm happy as heck that I SAW him drink. How's Squee doing this morning?

Yay! That's good news.

I've been following both Winston and Squee hoping they feel better soon.
 
Thanks, Squee seems okay, just a little weak, but he gets around in his cage
pretty well.
Today is the last day for Baytril, so we will see how he acts after the
treatment, and I will be starting the other med as soon as I get it in the
mail, which should be tomorrow.

My maine worry is keeping him hydrated, but after the Baytril is out of his
system, I hope he will go back to drinking normally :confused:

Since his blood shows high uric acid, I quit feeding him roaches and will stick
with silkies, cricks and hornworms for a while.
Not sure how I should supplement him with this condition though :confused:
 
I hope Squee feels lots better, and enjoys his worms and crickets. Still haven't seen Winston eat, but he's eyeing up his butter worms. I think he may go for it, they're nice and soft.

That sounds like good news. May Winston continue to improve. Squee too. I'm keeping them both in my prayers.
 
Took Winston to the vet this morning. He also took a nice long drink from the misting bottle before we left. He's was a heck of a lot more feisty than he was last time. The vet was pleased that he's showing a little bit of improvement. He gave him another shot of Baytril and subcutaneous fluids. He has another appointment on Monday, I'm hoping he keeps perking up.

That's good news. May he contiune to improve and have a full recovery very soon.
