pretty sure Diego has gular Edema?!?!?! Pics posted

lol, yes it s a very good thing, i just didnt want you looking high and low for something that you can only find in stores like that.

Ohhhh, I now realize what you meant... the ingredients for your wet gut load that you do. I thought you meant the dry cricket food ingredients from the pic I posted. Duhhh  That's what your referring to, correct?!?! I think I have it ;) Anyway feel free to correct me if I'm wrong... I will be heading to the Health food store for your Gut load mixture ingredients!!!
P.s. Took out the dry gut load & CARROT... no more carrots for a while. I gave them fresh banana & also left the 1 orange cube for now in there too.
Thanks again :)

no no no lol the ingredients for the DRY gutload that I made were found at a Health and Nutrition store, WET gutload ingredients can be found at your local grocery store.

scrap the cricket feed you posted a picture of

do not stop using carrot. carrot is a good thing, and carrots and yams are an awsome SAFE form of Vitamin A. this SAFE form of VitA is Beta Carotene. you may want to stay away from the bannana right now as it is high in potasium. the carrot and apple are fine. but follow my gutload recipe, and check out SandraChameleon's blogs on gutloading for extra ingredients. feel free to message her too she is a wonderful help around here.

:D Thanks for everything... will do!!!! :D:):D:)

I scanned this thread, but does he possibly have any stringly mucous in his mouth? If this came on suddenly and he was hanging his head down he could have a respiratory infection.

Thanks for reply!
No... no mucus or any weird sounds, nothing like that but I will still keep an eye out for that as well just in case.

I'm sorry Laurie, there must be some misunderstanding. I myself use Calcium D3 a couple times a month as well. i never said this amount would cause MBD, as a matter of fact, here on the forums, i always encourage Calcium D3 once or twice a month. Please read my post again because I said everything seemed fine in regards to feeding and supplimentation.

DawnieGirl said this "What do you think & what should be done... No dusting? Get Vit A & give, wait til monday for vet? Give his crickets a different diet?"

which is why i said this "i would advise the vet check up monday, or see if there are any afterhour or weekend vets ASAP! also, do NOT give any vitamin A or D without vet consulation. too much vitamin A (im sure youve heard it) leads to organ failure, hypervitaminosis, edema, and death) too much D will lead to MBD and other severe illnessess."

my initial thought was something was in her chameleons mouth, at this point i didnt know her gutloading, it is rather poor IMO and could be a case of hypo-vitaminosis. the chameleon is getting a great majority of its nutrients through the supplimentation

sorry if we crossed paths and misunderstood eachother, but im just trying to help out the edema situation now based on what i've learned and am currently treating in my female who developed gular edema in gestation period. my girl is getting better and better each day and her situation was pretty bad. she has healed with 15% vet consultation and medication treatment and 75% the help of the forum and my own theories.

again, the inital assumption was something in the chameleon's throat.

Wow this took off after I went to dinner.

What I didn't want was for any new people to think they should not dust with calcium with d3. Sorry I came on so strong, but it is really easy for a small piece to be taken out of context, then someone could do harm to a chameleon.
I do understand that you are dealing with this issue and were trying to help which is great. i think the information you gave is all good as long as you remember people reading your post could look at the no vit D and miss the full response.

No hard feelings I hope, some thing just scare me I guess.

no deffinately no hard feelings :) i deffinately knew it was misunderstood. and yes, like i've said before, i always advise D3 and Vitamin once or twice a month. but there are just some cases when you dont want to, and that decision comes only with vet recommendation or good experience and knowledge about the situation.

dont worry Laurie, we cool

Update... now not eating, won't shoot tongue & being hand feed worms

Diego tries to shoot his tongue but can't & I have to hand feed worms. He has a vet appt already but due to not having a vet that will see him near by us we have an appt for Friday w/ an exotics specialist over an hour away. I asked them & they have seen "Panther Chams" in the past. He is still closing his eyes during the day as he has done since I got him 3 months ago. At times this seems to have gotten better but never fully stopped & now is worse. Also he still bubbling his eyes out. He has what looks like Gular Edema & now tongue's not shooting. He stopped eating for a few days until I intervened and hand fed. Prior to his tongue not shooting he was missing the crickets. I have changed my gut load but he isn't interested in crickets so I've have been hand feeding wax worms mostly & a couple small size superworms (not to interested in the superworms). Honestly he seems disappointed his tongue won't shoot & seems to get discouraged when he tries to do it but it won't. Any advise or pointer for vet visit? For prior to vet? To know in advance? Thanks for any help you can offer!!!
P.S. I have try to give him Reptaid by putting a drop of it on a worm I fed him yesterday & today as well. In the past tried the Terramycin ointment for eyes & a reptile eye wash.
His (poss) gular edema looks a little smaller but is still there & his fecal was fine the last time his pooped but still not completely white, kinda slight tinge to it of orange. I thought it was completely white but on closer inspection there is still very slight orange tinge.
Also last night he slept upside down hanging down by his feet & tail from a vine that was going down from top to bottom of cage. TIA

I don't like the sounds of his behavior and the eyes shutting, etc.
IMHO you really need to find out what's going on ASAP!
