I had a litter of chameleon's born 48 hours ago from my female Jackson's. She was bred by her previous owner (on purpose) at way too young of an age (imo) so she isn't very big. She gave birth to 23 babies. Luckily, I found them right after being born and was able to help those that didn't drop and start trying to get out of their sacks. Of the 23: 4 were never responsive, 7 won't open their eyes (3 of these have died), 4 are trying to eat, and 8 are constantly sleeping.
My question is: because the mother was young and still had a good size litter, is it possible she gave birth prematurely?
She was bred in early January so she carried for about 6.5 months. Also, I'm wondering if the babies that won't open their eyes are more underdeveloped. Some of the babies started attempting to eat fruit flies today, but there are some that are sleeping all the time. They are next to a humidifier and I also mist at least 6 times a day with warm water. There are fruit flies and also silkworm hatchlings available to them.
What is a normal amount of sleep?
Is there anything I can do to help those that are more interested in sleeping than eating?
