so my landlord said no to dubia roaches

and i was looking into praying manti (plural?)
can someone show me a pic of them?

breeding, is it easy?

are they dangerous? i know they have claws or something

please give me a good information site or thread

Mantids would be very expensive to grow as a feeder. They also take a long time to grow. And lastly, they are too cool to use as a feeder.

Check out mantidforum.net for more info on them.

expensive bleh.

i cant find a good feeder method... my crickets smell of death and decay but when i check it seems extremely healthy....

Welp =] I bought a Praying Mantis Egg case. You can only buy them anywheres from jan-may. I bought mine from Insectlore.com In one egg case anywheres from 75-300 praying mantis come out of it.... I bought the kit which comes wit ha dumb house thing that you cant use anyways.... so dont buy a pagoda kit. I think just to buy the case its like 8 bux. Once they come out of the case which usually takes 3-6 weeks.... You need to seperate them or they will eat each other. The moment they come out they will be looking for food. You feed them insects XD. Chameleons Love these guys. A good starter bug for your mantis just born is fruit flies.... Im still waiting for mine to hatch but I will put them in a big tub and divide it off..... Usually if you get some deli cups you can put like 5 in a time and some leaves and branches they should be ok.

They seem to be really neat to raise only problem is as a feeder it takes alot of time and energy into getting htem set up at first born. I think once u get the cage set and are able to seperate the youngins it gets easier. So you get a less smellyer feeder but you have to buy feeders to feed these guys XD you can catch some I find it easier just buying..

I'm not surprised your landlord vetoed the roaches. :) I have a colony of dubia, but everyone gets all freaked out when they see them.

Try to keep your crix as dry as possible, with good ventilation. This will cut down on the smell and keep them alive.

I can't think of anything that you could raise as feeders besides crix and roaches.

Dont have to feed them crickets XD you can feed them worms... when they get bigger you can feed them them all kinds of stuff....

I am now currently raising crickets.....hornworms...superowrms....silkworms...and waiting on the praying mantis XD

was vetoed because if one were to get loose it'd cause a serious issue, as stated.

no arguement was available lol. was a firm no

i hate crickets and my cham doesnt seem so fond of them anymore.
she loves worms... but i can't really feed mealworms all the time its unhealthy

how can i take care of the horrid smell emmiting from the cricket container? obviously i cant use a spray because it can't be healthy for my cham or the crix... so now what?

i actually wanted to start an ant colony lol. chams dont like ants do they? good feeders?

i

Ya mealworms arent the most nutritionous feeder... well neither or hornworms... hornworms area good snack. They are high in fat and good for dehydrated chameleons.. but you dont have to have a dehydrated chameleon to feed it hornworms... Just know if u feed several of these guys to your cham it will get fat XD. Silkworms are good. But your pretty much stuck with crickets as a main food if you cant feed roaches. Try feeding them more leafy greens if theyll eat it. Crickets I guess you can say are the cheapest. Most definitely the smelliest.

lol @ sean: I want the best for my chams <3 I supply plenty of options haha.... =D I hate bugs. =p The worms are not that bad.... but I wont hold it in my hand cause I dont want them to latch to me and bite me XD. Crickets are standable if they dont die.... I wont do roaches....and Im still trying to figure out how I plan on seperating the mantises because those are scary looking too . =p

Wontbe... the smell your getting is because your crickets are dying and when one cricket dies it emits smells... then kills yoru other crickets... the longer you keep that smell in there the faster their gonna die. You gotta keep it WELL ventilated and everytime oen dies you have to take it out as soon as possible. I would put the crickets in a seperate container and clean out your main container with some soap and water and start over. Make sure to get all dead ones outt

I'm lying to my apartment complex... They think I only buy crickets when I need then HAHAHAHA... I have Dubias, Crickets, Woodlice, mealworms...
