Possible mouth problem

Hi
My 9 month old sambava(male) has a strange thing on his top lip just under his nose. While I was trying to get a good picture he got quite stressed so I don't have any good quality ones. I will put the best ones on. It's a dark coloured lip that kind of makes his top log pertrude I guess. I'm not sure what to do. I don't have a reptile vet yet so at the moment I go to my local store for help but they are shut now. Also please excuse my ugly mug....

Try to look inside his mouth,to see if has any red blood blister, cheesy looking mucus on his gums,if does then u will need to find a vet for that mouth rot diease,or it might be a cut from the insect legs while he was chewing on the bug.

How do I open his mouth safely?

Hi there, I see you are having problems too- The link on my post about opening the mouth safely was incredible- muchadoaboutchameleons link.
I wish I could help with your problem but I'm sure you'll get lots of help very soon, hang on in there! The search field at the top may help until then, Hope your boy's o.k. (y)

Wrap him around on a soft towel first slowly pry open his mouth by pressing on the side of his mouth with just enough pressure, sometime the cham will open his mouth as soon u did that,if not u will have to use a little bit of the pressure, once his mouth is open ,u can use couple qtips for him to bite down on them, just be careful with ur own fingers, thats what the qtips for,u can have someone help u holding a flash light so u can look inside his mouth, hopefully its not a mouth rot ,the teeth might be dark brown color n u will have to go see a Chameleons specialist vet for sure.

Ok thanks for all the help! I will reply when I know more

I tried to open his mouth but he wouldn't so I looked at his gums and it doesn't look odd, it's just that one bit that slightly overhangs. It doesn't seem to hurt him to the touch but he did bite me because he didn't like being held. I will ask John at the reptile store tomorrow and see what he says. I think I'll just take it from then then but I will reply soon

I already warn u about the biting,no chams like to be force their mouth open, now u need to put some hydrogen peroxide on that hand got bitten.
At least u didnt find anything odd,he probably ate a big bug n his lip got caught by the sharp spikey legs ,keep eye on him to see if he has any trouble eating,if necessary go see a vet soon.

Your pictures aren't very clear. Can you take better pictures at different angles so it is more clear what you are worried about? I am unclear at what your concern is. I almost wonder if you are concerned about his rostral process. Are you worried because the ridge that goes over his eyes and down the top of his face and around the front of his snout is getting bigger? Here's a link that I think shows what I am talking about.

He didn't bite me hard enough to rip even the top layer of skin but I cleaned my hands anyway.

I'm not concerned about his snout, but that's an interesting fact anyway. I have a bad camera on my phone and am unable to get clear pictures at the moment. He has almost like an extra scale that goes from his lip onto his gum. It's not sore but I will try and get a picture for you

Are u talking about the front lip facing us has a slightly gap in between or the top of the rostral sticking out, cause my reply to u is for the front lip with the tiny gap nothing else.
