Cage Info:
Cage Set up here:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...vember/314.jpg...since then we've switched to paper towel as a cover for the bottom
Cage Type - 38 Screen Flextarium ( 16.5" x 16.5" x 30")
Lighting - UVB and Basking, two separate bulbs. UVB Bulb IS a coil, repti-glo 13w 5.0 made 06/09. WE ARE REPLACING THIS ASAP
Temperature - In his warmest zone we try to maintain it in the mid 80s.
Humidity - Frequent misting has helped bring the humidity up to what are deemed "good" levels.
Location - NS, Canada.
Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Veiled, most likely male, between 5 and 7 weeks.
Handling - None, yet. He really likes to be left alone.
Feeding - Trying to keep a steady supply in his cage, he eats about 5-9 3 week old hut-loaded crickets a day. Offering him fresh greens, sometimes he eats them, sometimes he ignores them.
Supplements - Calcium +D3 on the crickets, as well as a multi-vitamin--schedule copied from one suggested to us on another post
Watering - he has a waterfall and the cage gets misted a few times daily, three times with about 13-14 oz of water (1-2 minutes). He drinks from his waterfall and off his leaves.
Current Problem
as per recommended in another thread, we're actively searching for a non-coil UVB bulb. Unfortunately, NO pet store in the area sells them--we've been to all seven. We've searched everywhere. So now we're searching for a place that ships zoomed to Canada--we can get it through a pet store (that doesn't carry them because of their price :S) but they can't guarantee speedy delivery, I'll call them today, though. We WILL be ordering one today no matter what. Either that or getting a UVB/basking light combined--is there anything wrong with those? I'm honestly at this point leaning towards getting the combo light if it's safe.
This morning I went to mist him for the second time and noticed one eye was swollen, big time...and was BULGING. Not only that, but the swell seemed to be moving from one side of the eye to the other and he rubbed it on his branch. I immediately searched the memories here, saw that the best thing to do was mist him, so I went and filled his bottle with warm water. When I went to mist him the bulge was gone--this was a span of maybe 5 minutes. I misted him anyway, he HATES being misted and hissed at me like crazy...I feel like all the trust work we've tried in the past three weeks just went down the garbage, but oh well. I misted at him a lot. He was super pissy. He did poop while I misted him, and it indicated that he was hydrated.
He is still rubbing his eye occasionally on the branch-- but it's no longer swelled.
I also noticed that one side of him--the side he typically basks on--was darker than the rest of him, but only by a shade or two. So was the crest of his head. I'm scared he got burnt by the UVB-it's now turned off, I'd rather go without for a day then risk him being burnt.
Should we take him to the vet? Or just keep him very hydrated? He doesn't seem to be overly hungry, but is still very active, so if he is burnt (which I'm not sure he is) he isn't in pain.
I will take pictures later if he's still darker--I figure he'll be ok when I leave and his color should return when he's alone.
Thanks for your help.
