Possible burns?

its a burn. the spine and the side is burned. arm. always check your basking temps as new lights often have way different temps, even changing the fixture can increase or decrease heat output.

yes burns 100% loo like burns he needs anti biotic ointment on that possimly a vet depending on his reaction to it it wont hurt taking him in neosporin is what i would use on it it looks pretty big

That's good you got the right cream. I used a similar one for my boy. Your chameleon will hide any illness from you until its quite far advanced. I did not have mine treated for several months. The only symptom he showed was a loss of colour, and the burn mark. We used the cream twice a day and he had baytral injections for two weeks he is now great. Your vet will be able to decide what treatment is best for your one when he is seen. Don't beat yourself up about it, it is unfortunate but it happens. You have recognised the problem and taken measures to stop it happening again.

Just wanted to post a PM that I had with Dr. O on burn treatment in case anybody else ever needed the info.
From Dr. O:
due to the color changing nature of chams, I have found that its very difficult if not impossible to judge the severity of a burn for several weeks. sometimes there's a color change but it all gets better, and sometimes it continues into a full slough.
however, silver sulfadiazine (SSD) is my favorite topical by far for reptile burns, there is nothing better. I would keep a relatively thick layer on it at all times, enough that you may only need to reapply every 12-48 hours or so as it naturally rubs off. but it will help to keep bacteria dead and out, and moisture in. if he sloughs however, he will need systemic antibiotics for a month or longer, and you're going to need a vet for that.

That is so interesting from Dr O. That is more or less the same treatment Popeye had and that was from a vet with an interest in reptiles. ( the best I can get here ) . A problem didn't show up till about a couple of months after the burn. There was no sloughing but he had a course of subcut antibiotics and a check up a month later. Thanks it's good to know my vet was on the right track.

How are u measuring the basking temps?
I try to arrange the lamp so the bulb is a few inches from the screen, and prop something between the light fixture dome and the cage surface.
Surprisingly, 25W is all we need. They dont get super hot

OUCH! Hope that cream works. Glad to see people that actually care about there animals on this forum. I wish there was a screening process to be able to own animals, especially ones like this that require more care.
Sorry about the rant, just see stuff like that go untreated b/c the owners just don't care to check up on it or don't want to fork out any extra money.

oops...didn't look at the date of original post. He looks a lot better. I've heard it takes a while for those to go away, but I definitely see the progress!
