At petsmart, sleeping during the day. Poor little fella
This stuff just gets under my crawl!!!!
It makes me want to dress up like a Chameleon Ninja and sneak into all the pet stores across the country that don't know how to properly take care of the chams they sell and rescue them ALL! Poor babies..... There should be some type of law that pet stores must be knowledgeable in the care of the reptiles they sell. And these same pet stores should be observed regularly to make sure that they are in compliance at all times. It truly is abuse!!! What makes me sick is that they continually get away with it, over and over and over.
I'm working on my chameleon "superhero" costume now.....
Anyone care to be my sidekick?

Unfortunately, as much as we would all want to, don't buy him. That's what they want, and it just gives them more money to get more and to treat them like crap. So tell them what they're doing wrong, and if you can make the leap, tell them you won't shop there anymore.

Sadly, a lot of pets stores don't understand the more complex needs that a chameleon has, especially the needs of the Montane species - often with other tanks, etc in the shop the temps are too hot for a Jackson. It makes me so mad - Jacksons are such sweet little chams, so calm and gentle and so full of character.

My Petsmart has one too. Cute little guy, with his eyes closed. I've gone in a couple times just to look at him. It's been at night time, long after my cham would be asleep, so I'm not sure if that's why his eyes are closed. He's so adorable. They have a larger female too. $129.99 each.

To be honest, they are not all like that. I think it depends on the management.
My local store is pretty good and does things mostly right and keeps things fairly clean. The employees are all friendly and want to know all about my chams and how I care for them
I have been to other stores, however, where I actually saw DEAD lizzards!!
They were so shrunken and dried up, I think they were day geckos!?
I do almost all my supplies buying from Amazon.com except when I have a emergency, then I stop by the local PetStupid on my way home from work. In most cases, I avoid looking at the animals, knowing I am likely to get very upset, but like I said, my store is pretty good, and they have had the same manager for a long time, very unusual for a chain store, they normally rotate managers.

The thing is alot of pet stores would clearly say that they are not there to house and look after them for life they are there to sell them and thats not how it should be I have had a disscusion with a pet store here that didnt know what they were doingwith the reps they had and told them they needed water they had no veg in with them as they were beardies and I had to tell them to clean them out also and that they were too hot.
I have since been back and they no longer stock them they shouldnt be allowed to hold any kind of reptile unless they have someone that know what they are doing with them
And unfortunatley the cricket as a side kick wouldnt last very long lol

I've seen PetSmart's humidity in their veileds' tank fluctuate from 50% to 5%.

Our Petsmart doesn't provide UVB to the reptiles; just a heat light and a red/night light. The reason I know that is that I was talking about chameleons to a girl who works there and she told me they had one once that was there so long it developed bad MBD and she had to take it home and nurse it back to health. After knowing that, I can see by looking in above the cages that they only have the two bulbs.

Well, I would make sure that my side kick "Cricket" was gut loaded like a super hero should be. Ha!
