I don't know if a ponytail palm would last with all the water that it may get ,I have one and they are easy to grow but they do not like a lot of water.
You might need to read about them and see what it says about the water.

Ponytail palm has really coarse (almost serrated) leaves that can be abrasive like pampas grass. I would hesitate to use it.
