Please someone help..

I just threaded not too long ago because Frank was acting strange... I have an appointment with the vet tomorrow.. but things are getting real wierd and im trying to see if anyone might have been through this before.. and maybe has some way of helping him feel better.. Im going to just write the whole story :

So for about a week or two i couldnt find crickets.. i was feeding him mealworms... i think maybe last week sometime or the end of the week prior i got the crickets in.. he was fine.. then like 2 days later he ate like 5 crickets and went to bask but his bulb went out. about 5 hours later i came back with a new bulb.. but he was just laying in his basking spot with his eyes shut.. but i can tell he was awake cuz his eyes would be moving inside. for a few days he would stay still throughout the day with his eyes closed. ALOT. but hed open them here and there and eat or drink. i thought he was looking better... today its WOORSE. ALOT WORSE! i went to turn his light on at 9am. he stayed there with his eyes closed for about 5 hours. i went to buy him food. i got here at 2pm and he had moved but his eyes were still shut. then i put out some food.. he felt them and opened his eyes.. THEN i realized that he only will open his right eye. the other one seems to look sunken and it looks like he tries to open it but it wont.. sometimes it will but not really. he tries to eat his food but misses. he ate maybe 2 of the 7 put in. of coarse its obvious he misses because he cant see out of one eye... but what in the world can be wrong with it!? and how did this happen?? he does that little rolling of the eyes inside alot.. and sometimes it looks like the left one buldges out really bad.. he hasnt drank any water today or yesterday... also there seems to be something coming out his eye.. the right one.. at first i thought it was the beginning of him shedding, but he didnt... so ive come to believe its not skin, but maybe puss.. ?? PLEASE if you read view this and know anything that might be usefull COMMENT.. im really worried... if i even come close to him he turns really dark purple.. I dont even know how to take him to the vet tomorrow.. what can happen if he gets really really stressed on top of what is happening..? :(

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?- Ambilobe Panther, Male, about 4.5 months.. and i have had him for a little over 3 months.
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?- i havent in the passed month
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?- he eats dusted crickets. about 6 or 7 a day.. sometimes 10 or 12.
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? zoo med w/o D3 everyday.. multis and with D3 twice a month
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?- i bottle mist. everytime i see its dry. heavily. maybe 6 times a day.. yes he drinks the water
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?- no on the parasites. feces is dark brown with the white on the side
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.- i couldnt get crickets for like a week...so i had to feed him meal worms.. i just got the crickets in 3 days ago.. and he did this on the 2nd day.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?- screen.. not sure on dimensions, but its about 2.5 feet high.
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?- zoo med 5.0 with florescent bulb.. basing is about 90 degrees. 12/12
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?- temps are lower 70 to upper 60s. basking is about 90-92
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?- humity is tropical about 70
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?- pothos
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?- cage is in livingroom on high table... he has never had problem with this.
Location - Where are you geographically located?- sacramento, ca.

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.- ever since yesterday... i fed him about 6 crickets.. then, when he was going to bask, his bulb went out. it was out about 5 hours before i came back with a new one.. about3-4 hours into bulb going out.. he just layed in his basking spot and closed his eyes... he did this until his bed time which was maybe 3 hours later and through.. i woke up in the morning, 2 hours into his rise and shine time and he was still doing the same thing.. ? now he will walk around a little but stops, chills, and closes his eyes again... i dont know if maybe he just doesnt feel good since im thinkng maybe he wasnt able to digest his food..
 
It sounds like he has an eye infection.

How it occured I couldnt tell you. But if things are oozing out of it, its probably an infection that you need to see avet for.


Unless hes about to die, which it doesnt sound like he will, taking him to the vet wont stress him out that much.

panthers are not as fragile as some people make them out to be.

To transport, you can put him inside a shoebox with a washcloth in it that he can grip, or you can just hold him.


until you get to the vet, find saline drops. regular saline from a drug store, and put a few drops in his eyes.

Thank you Cammimom... this is what i thought.. but is this why he just lays there and will not drink?? do you think that the treatment with vet will be expensive? my boyfriend keeps freaking me out talking about how he looks like hes gunna die... but i dont think so either.. because hes trying to hunt and everything.. but its just this eye thing that is creeping me out.. can such infections spread?? what if ive waited too long?

If you suddenly went blind... how easy would it be for you to find food and water?
SImilar concept with him.

Vet wise.. they will want the exam fee, probably need to do a cultureof the eye gunk, and then the meds.. so thats sometihng youd have to ask them.

If it just happened, i doubt its too late..

I wont scare you with the too late stuff. Just get him to the vet as soon as you can.
 
I will tell you if you don't see the vet he could lose his eye. Taking him to the vet should not cost much, he doesn't need a lot of tests. But do get him to the vet ASAP then let us know how he is doing.
 
At the vet with my baby... vet doesn't know if his eyes look this way due to infection or maybe dehydration but will treat for both... she said he's still a little small and they normally don't do tests until they're a little bigger. they just took him to give him some injections....... my baby.... he was so pissed this whole time... he looked like a tiny pit bull.. grabbed the wash cloth in his mouth and started shaking it around... i feel horrible...

OMG... i went to turn on his lights and he looks really dark and he's somehow wet with something?? wth?? he wasnt misted since yesterday! his back is wet and there is a huge white spot!?
 
Could you post a pic? Is the white spot skin? Fungus? Really hope he is O.K.!!! Is he near his basking site? When was the last time you misted and what kind of feeders are you using? :confused:
What about live plants? Post a pic of him and his enclosure so we can check it out.

If the rehydration fluid was injected under the skin, I wonder if the "wet" is the injected fluids leaking back out? I also wonder if the white area is the start of a shed? Maybe all the handling at the vet triggered one area to shed earlier than it might have otherwise?

not exactly the same but it seems somewhat similar. Also I would say that the wet spots were from the injection, my vet told me when Karma got his calcium and Vit A injections that some may leak back out from the skin instead of spreading through his body(it didn't but it could have). A lot of what Karma did is exactly what you've described so far, you might want to see if your supplements have Vit A because I've been told a deficiency in that can cause them to close their eyes. yes the vet did say that she was sure its either an eye infection or vit a defienciecy... so she injected him with fluid and vit a... now that you guys mention it maybe coming back out, the spot that has some sort of "fluid" is the spot where he got poked.. also, the white spot seems to have disapeared now.. but here is a pic.. not too good because its from my phone.... i dont want to grab him because he already hates me .. :( .... one sec, i will post pic off my phone.. pc not downloading
 
Its more of a sticky substance rather than something that would drip off..

Is it sticky.. or just kind of......thick... I know the calcium glubionate(might be wrong) that I have to give him orally is kinda of a thicker substance and if it's the same stuff they inject him with it may be that. I'm not sure about how an infection would look but I would think it would be a little more pussy, may not clear, then again that' is just what I would imagine. Is what you're talking about that small white spot near the middle of his back, or more of the light sheen that's on his ribs?
