I am intent on getting a chameleon in a few months, but before i buy a cage, i have to decide on what type of chameleon im going to get. The only problem is that the tallest the cage can be is 17 inches high(because of the way my desk is arranged). I thought about getting a cage that is longer rather than higher. is this okay? and what type of chameleon would be best in a cage like this??? please help and thanks :))

Welcome to the forums I seen on the forum that a lot of people use 24x24x36 but what i have read is bigger is all ways better unless there babies then it can be a little bit small. i hope you find the perfect Chameleon for you and this is a great place to learn about them!

you would want something like a pygmy chameleon. They can be kept in tanks that are horizontal. I don't think they are that easy to keep though. They are very small and brown in color. If you are looking for a Veild or Panther you are gonna have to figure out another place to house them because you need about 48 inches plus for an adult in heighth.

Man carol we are just on it today! Helping all kinds of people!

thanks for the info! and is there any kind of chameleon slightly bigger than a pygmy? Call me wierd, but i love chameleons with tails lol

do pygmys have to be kept in a glass terrarium? is it better for them?

as far as I know they are kept in glass. If you want send a pm to Ferritinmyshoes. She is one of our members who has them and she is also a vet which is a big plus! She could give you all the info you need. An enclosure that is 17 inches tall is really not a good environment for any chameleon I can think of other than a pygmy. Maybe someone else can give you some ideas.
