Hello everyone.
My name is Shelby. I have a veiled chameleon (who im pretty sure is male) who is about 7-8 months old. He is kept in a large terrarium with a screen lid and had a 150watt light on him during the day as well as a UVB source. And at night I switch to a red heat light. Recently, Ive noticed bumps appearing on his rib cage. He had one or two when I first purchased him but lately more have been appearing. All his crickets have been fed calcium and have been dusted with calcium before being put into the cage. He hasn't shed his skin in over a month or two and has been very lethargic as of lately. He just kinda lays at the bottom of his cage or on his branch and sleeps. He doesnt move if he doesnt have to and his eyes are almost always closed as if he is sleeping!! He has an available water source and I mist him very often. I have no idea what is wrong with him or what could be wrong with him....someone help, please!

The 150 watt light bulb is too much and the bulb at night is not needed. Also they do not drink from water dishes.

the 150watt light is way too strong, do u know what the temps are? and if hes sleeping during the day that is a sign that somthing is wrong. and depending on what the temps in your house is the night time bulb can go as chameleons need total darkness and a temp drop at night.

That 150 watt light bulb is making is way too hot get a smaller 40-60watt and the bulb is not need at night. He wont drink from the water bowl.

You may want to add some more vines and live plants for him to crawl on as well, it looks pretty baren in there and they like to feel hidden inbetween the foliage

Alright, I will add a few more to his cage. I bought a ton but I wasnt sure how much to put in. :) Thank you

The sunken in eyes say he is very dehydrated, how are you misting? Do you see him drink when you mist? Do you have a dripper? The bulb wattage is high, but the important thing is what is the basking temp, and what is the ambient temp? You do not need a night time light (he needs his sleep!). You do not need night time heating at all unless your room temp is below 60F. He needs a nighttime drop in temp (like in nature).
The bumps could be an indication of mbd, so I recommend a vet visit no matter what else you do.

altho chams can thrive in glass terrariums its somewhat easier IMO to keep them in screened cages, it also can sometimes be stressfull for them to see themselves in the glass.

You need to have that questionnaire answered with every detail. Temperature on the high side and low side, dimensions of your terrarium, everything. Please let us know EVERYTHING about how you take care of your chameleon and the living conditions he is in. Otherwise, there will no be enough info to give you the best advice.

that chameleon looks dead :/ dont be surpirzed if he does die. first off they need moving water they dont use dishes.!! veileds also like fruits and veggies. the light as everyone is saying should be 40-60w and do u have a uvb light? if not that could be the biggest problem as to why he is sleeping constantly. also you should get him an all screen cage they need humidity. as to male/female look at the hind legs do they have a spur? its like a little bump on the back? if u see his eyes open try LIGHTLY misting them with luke warm water someone had said they can absorb water threw thier eyes. plus if thiers infection it could help clean it out. you should try getting him to a vet as well. those pics are so sad. are you keeping temp and humidity up? cuz if humidity and temp are not in check he could have lung problems (another reason for constantly sleeping) no offense but you dont seem prepared for him. as they are not simple pets like dogs and cats.

Also, remove the substrate. It is not good to have it in the enclosure as the chameleon may consume it and cause impaction.

I am attaching a picture of how I keep my chams so you get an idea of an enclosure that is appropriate for a male veiled.

Sorry for it being turned.. Both cages are acceptable for a veiled, I am using them for my female veiled and a female panther. (though when the pic was taken, I had my male in the one on the left, you see him in there)

what UVB are you supplying for him? Also what other supplements are you giving him or is the calcium the only thing? I agree with Veiledchams that you need to fill out the form with EVERY detail!

you also need plants try getting golden pothes or umbrella plant but as of now get him to the vet or he aint ganna live another week.

That chameleon needs to see a vet RIGHT AWAY if you want to have even a slim chance of saving it.

There are changes that should be made to the cage and your husbandry but I doubt that if you made all of them today it would save your chameleon.

you should also find out if its male or female as females lay unfertile eggs which causes health problems/death by being eggbound if going un noticed. males will have bumps on the back middle of both back legs, females lack this.

Dude, chill out. You had no idea how to take care of a cham, probably still dont know the half of it.

Try putting your cham in the shower. Get a plant and put it in the shower, aim the nozzle at a wall so the water bounces off and goes on the plant. Leave him in the for 15-20 minutes and do this 2x a day. This will help rehydrate your chameleon.
You have a male btw.
Get him outside for a few hours daily so he can get some natural UV light directly from the sun. Its much much much better than the lights we use to keep them inside.
You're gonna need calcium WITH vitamin D3 to dust the crickets with 2 times a month. You will also need multivitamins to dust 2 times a month.
I'd also find a good vet in your area and take him.
