Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care? -Daenerys (Dany for short) veiled, female, not sure exactly the age but she is very young. I’d say she 3-3.5 inches long nose to tail tip. We've had her for 16 days and we got her at a reptile expo.
  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? -not often, move for adding things into her cage and to take the pictures.
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? -fruit flys dusted with repcal calcium without d3. when we had originally brought her home we only had the repashy cal plus d3 which we used everyday until we learned to use the calcium only. weve been using the calcium only since tues. extra small silk worms are on the way and we had planned to pick up pinhead crickets soon to start feeding her those as well. we feed her 1 to 2 times a day, always once early in the morning and sometimes early afternoon.
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? -see above
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking? -water bottle misting for now several times a day for a few minutes till everything is pretty wet. a few days ago i made a temporary dripper out of a cup because i dont think shes drinking enough. we plan to also pick up a more permanent dripper that will last through the day tomorrow. we have a mistking but are waiting on a drill to come in the mail to set up the reserve. we use filtered tap water (we have good water where we live) plus we also use the reptisafe. Also I feel like her cage dries up pretty fast despite the humidity being pretty good.
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? -I have only seen her poop once. it was stuck to the side of the cage and kinda dry. i dont know how long it had been there though.
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions? -Reptibreeze 16x16x30
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? -Reptisun T5 HO with the bulb it came with which seems to be a 15W UVB 5.0. Her basking lamp is 100w.
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps? -We have a regular thermometer at the top by her basking light and a digital at the bottom by the floor. The basking light was reading 90-100 at its peak so I raised it some and now reads between 80-85. The bottom temperature is usually around the 70s. At night it'll drop to the mid 60's/
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity? -A hygrometer placed at about the middle of the cage. pretty consistently reads between 60-70%
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind? -No live plants yet. We bought a Dracaena Reflexa (mostly because it was the only plant at the store on the plant safe list) but i havent gotten the organic soil yet to re-pot it with so its sitting beside her cage.
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? -In our bedroom. It is consistently the warmest room in the house and also typically has the least traffic. No fans or vents. Top of the cage is 4.5-5 ish ft from the ground.
  • Location - Where are you geographically located? -Renton, WA (Seattle Area)

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about. - When I came home this evening I noticed one of her front arms looked weird. I asked a friend who has some reptile knowledge and she suggested it could be gout but I wanted to get the forum's opinion as I have been doing a lot of reading up on here since we got her. It looked almost broken to me but shes walking on it fine and behaving completely normal. Her color seems good and she eats everyday, today included. I have been concerned she wasn't drinking enough water, but that being said my boyfriend and have both seen her drink water that past few days.

I will add pictures from my phone after I post this.

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm pretty worried for her. I know we rushed into getting her a little, as I have always wanted to be a chameleon owner. But we truly want to do the best for her we can. Hopefully I'm just overthinking it.

Pictures of weird looking arm first then one of her other arm. Last two from the first day we got her, for comparison.

If it wasn't a break from a fall then it's MBD...and even if it was a break from a fall it could have happened because of weak bones.
You haven't had it long enough that it was something you did wrong if it's nutritional.
You need a vet to tell you if it was a break due tomweak bones.
