please help, senegal chameleon dying

chameleons

New Member
i have a two year old senegal chameleon and when i went to see him the morning he was laying on the floor. I thought her he was dead but when I nudged him his eyes opened.

I gave him some water this morning which he drank but he will not eat anything,
the last time he ate was 2 days ago.
He is a dark black colour and the top of his spine is lime green (his normal colour)
Also, he is holding his one back leg up above the ground.
He will sometimes open his eyes for a few second but no longer than that

PLEASE HELP :(

You said you have a 2 year old, how do you know? Have you had the Senegal for 2 years? He probaly can in wc so you may not know his age. Senegal are not very long lived from what I have read. He may be dieing from old age. If you have did well with him for 2 years, with no problems, has anything changed around him? and the leg holding. is it possible he fell? If he was on the bottom maybe for some reason he fell. Have you tried putting him back on a branch to see if he will sit and use the leg? Just be sure he gets lots of water. Let us know, and good luck.

I meant to say I've had him for two years... so I guess hes a bit older than two...
I put him on a damp paper towel and have been misting him frequently but his conditions have not improved.
He will not move at all still and last opened his eyes 20 minutes ago.

We have called the vet but we were not able to get in until 3, theres still a long ways to go until then.

Sorry to hear about your Chameleon. I would recommend you get to a vet ASAP. I do not think there is much any of us can do for you.

What you are describing sounds like it is not something that can be corrected by advise of forum members. Like Laurie said if you have been keeping the chameleon for 2 years it could just be that time.

Your best chance is to get to a vet without delay. The further downhill the chameleon goes the less of a chance you have of any resolution.

Sorry , You must of posted this while I was typing.

Keep him warm. Place a basking bulb at a distance away but let him warm up a little.

All you can do until 3 is keep him comfotable or try an emergancy vet

how should i tnsport him?
the vet it 45 mins away and the outside temperature is 10 degrees celcuis

Make sure you heat up the car first. Just make it comfortable for you.

I use a small box and place paper towles in the bottom and spray lightly. I then put a stick in the box for them to hold onto. If he is just laying on the bottom and not holding on put him in and let him lay on the bottom.

Make sure it gets dark in the box. He will just sleep.
