Please Help!! Panthers Tongue Dried Out...

I got home today and looked at my female panther. It looked like she tried to eat a branch. Upon further inspection, I realized it was her tongue. The main length of it is completely dried out but the end is moist... what do I do??

BTW, I have her on auto misters...

I moistened her tongue but she can't retract it...

I have no experience in this... But what i would do is what your doing, keep misting it.

i believe people use KY Jelly to moisten some organs in case of prolapse.
Perhaps, you can use it for this case.
Your best bet is keeping it moist until you can get him to the exotic vet for surgery (if necessary).
They might need to amputate the tongue.

Don't worry though, Chameleon can adapt even without the tongue.
So, go to the vet ASAP!

Just yesterday, I picked-up some generic K-Y jelly to put in my chameleon medical kit for emergencies like this.

If she isn't panicked and trying to bite-off her tongue then keep it moist either until you get to the vet or she is able to retract it on her own. If she has already tried to bite it off or it is already severely damaged then there might be little point in trying to keep it attached .

You need to get her to a vet ASAP. If the tongue is dried out its likely beyond help and will need to be amputated....and the chameleon then put on antibiotics to prevent infection.

I had a werner cham that had that happen to she had her tongue amputated and we hand feed her daily. she is doing really good and has adjusted to her no tonge with a lot of TLC .
